I thought the Oblivion problem was to do with the Hard Disk cache and not the DVD drive. You had to hold down the 'A' button on your remote while the game powered up and this cleared the cache. Oblivion then ran smoothly again.

What would be nice would be to have your console upgraded, not particularly for free, but even a small fee of around £5-10 would be feasible.

I didn't think it was the drive that was noisy anyway, I thought it was the mass of fans that kicked in when you started a game to keep the console cool?!

I could be either - my PS2 sometimes DVD drive can be massively loud - oddly it depends on the game in the drive... for instance Lego:Star Wars (Platinum edition) is really noisy - but Lego:Star Wars 2 is pretty quiet - yet the latter game is bigger & longer etc thus would stretch the console more. Of course it could be that the Plat edition games are put out on cheap recycled DVD's!

I'd agree with that.

Whilst I'm not too bothered about changing my drive, if I had the option to do it for a reasonable fee it's something I would consider.

Yeh the ps2 was dependant on games like the eas sports rugby game sounded like the ps2 was going to blow up

I think it was the colour of the discs

If this drive is better why didn't Microsoft have it for the 360 from launch? I would assume they were cutting costs by having cheaper less able drives.

I'm sorry... sorted what? The fact that affordable DVD drives in 2005/6 made a lot more noise than they do now?

While they were at it, they could've changed the laws of physics so processors don't heat up when in use, then we wouldn't need the noisy fans either.

haha...considering the only other console to rival the 360 in the noisy fan area is the DC..im sure they couldve made the fans quieter!

the drive doesnt make that much noise in my opinion anyway..

Yeah, it's bit of a shock if you start her up in the middle of the night in silence, but I can't say I've ever found it an issue.

Though admittedly my PC's DVD drive is about 4/5 years old and it seems like the world is coming to an end when a disk spins in it. So maybe I'm not the best person to judge. lol

Yes...360 owners unhappy at the noise should hear my PC. And it locks up unless I remove the side of the case. be happy !!
