Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

Nice review, I already have the game pre ordered and am loving the demo.

I never played Butcher Bay on XBOX 1, so this full remake that features in the game is going be the first thing I play. So I take it I can add another point to the score, for not having played Butcher in the first place?

Yeah 9/10 is fair if you haven't played Butcher Bay. Now's the time.

I'm intrigued by the multiplayer, I'll wait and see what people think of it on here before I dip my toes in.

I had high expectations for this game given the "lost gem" status bestowed upon it by various jounralists and gamers alike.

However I'm sorry to say this, but hasn't anyone else noticed the absolutely dreadful graphics engine, that warps the hell out of the image around the corners, creating a god awful "fish bowl" effect? This completely ruined the demo for me, as I know from past experience that games with this cheapskate approach to 3D always give me motion sickness.

In fact even if it didn't give me motion sickness, it hardly suspends disbelief when the world around you bends as though you were wearing your grandmother's glasses. A great game it may be, but I think I'll leave my stomach where it is thanks.

Gaming since 1984(!)

There is going to be a PC version, but unfortunately at latest count it's going to be published with limited activations. So yes, in effect it becomes "crap" thanks to that caveat.

The "fish bowl" effect was present in the original, to give you a better view whilst in "Stealth Mode" - most likely to enforce the sense of being being Riddick lying in wait to strike, and (even more likely) to help the User play in a stealth-like fashion from the first person.

I'd read somewhere that the collectable Ciggarette Packs have been removed in this version - does anyone know if this is correct?

Nope, the cigarette packs are still in there. I've got the PS3 version and there's a trophy for collecting them and everything.
