I fought the law and... hang on, I am the law!

It's easy to forget how long Need For Speed series has been around. The original - our first taste of driving licensed exotica from the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Dodge - existed in a world before Gran Turismo, at least five years before Midnight Club and when we were still playing the very first Ridge Racer. Over a dozen games and years later, it's an achievement that EA Black Box (developers for the majority of the series) have managed to keep the desire to move around in a car quickly so stoked for so long.... read more

Need for Speed Undercover

The Good Lady brought home a surprise for me on Sunday, a copy of Midnight Club: LA and I must say im really enjoying it, havent got into any of the series before but you can now call me a convert.

NFS may not push any envelopes but whats the betting it will still be the top Racer this Xmas and thats a shame.

Disappointing reviews all round it seems.
No exscuses for juddery framerate these days tbh!

EA shoulda used Criterion's Burnout engine for this title, oh well!...

If true, that's actually a brilliant idea, not a negative. Gamer points serve no purpose currently other than to boost egos - it's great that someones actually enabling you to use them for something.

Ah yes, I remember reading that now (and what you quoted actually confirms this - I really must learn to read).
Microsoft Points for car upgrades = bad
Gamer Points for car upgrades = great idea

Rip off? or Genius?

Postby Piranha » 25 Nov 2008, 11:31

Ive rented this game from Blockbuster and at first I balked at the PAID upgrades, thinking "Typical EA". But, after a few hours I found myself purchasing them and in hindsight EA have been very clever doing this. Ive not got long to play the game through with it being rented and so I didnt mind paying a few quid to soup up my car and hopefully finish the game before the rental period ends. Im not sure if it was their aim, but they've managed to make money out of a rental customer which is unheard of for most games!
