Sony, David Jaffe sued over God of War

Postby StonecoldMC » 18 Sep 2008, 11:41

Wow. Some people will sue for anything, eh?

I suppose the family of Willie Shakespeare will want to sue just about every book or film since his death and dont even start on the Soaps who pinch every storyline straight from Romeo & Juliet or The Merchant of Venice.

They cant really call their own ideas original can they? We've heard these kind of stories for thousands of years.

Perhaps Greece should sue these guys for stealing the mythology ideas in the first place.

Or Zeus should just smite them with a lightning bolt

Sue for anything? Yes, especially if they're American!

1 - A "chosen" one.
2 - The chosen ones loved ones are killed - he feels responsible.
3 - Glowing swords
4 - A suspension bridge

that could be anything, from spiderman to gladiator or jason and the argonauts!

Phew. I thought it was the estate agents near me in Hampstead.

That's a relief...

Well, we've cerainly not seen the full story with this article - I think the key thing here is proving the fact that the treatment was officially sent before the game was in development, probably not an easy thing. To be fair, if they did plaguarise this guys work; I hope they take them to the cleaners.

Ancient Greece or not - if it's a stolen idea, they need to pay up.

maybe they only just realised, i dont even know what the story of GOW is as i havent played it.

if it turns out Sony and the devs are in the wrong then they have to pay up, that's the way of the world and is entirely fair, why people cant see this is beyond me.

Coincidence or blatant plagiarism? You decide.
Makes you wondert why Sony turned it down initially though...

Talking of copyright theft, anyone know what happened with that 'Limbo of the Lost'?

In the article Sony says that most of the plot was from ties to mythology, and therefore are public domain. I agree that would be the case normally but if they read this script and then there are that many direct similarities, that is a problem. It doesn't matter what is public domain if someone organizes it into a particular sequence and storyline, then someone else uses it without permission.

Of course, proving that they did or didn't even read the script will be the tough part. I see a settlement thrown to these guys before it is over....

***NEWS FLASH***

Microsoft to sue Sony for using the letters G O and W to form the acronym GOW.

Tonyb, an unofficial Microsoft spokesperson stated "this is proof that the Xbox360 is the greatest gaming machine ever!"

Tam, an unofficial Sony spokesperson replied "they can go and suck my hairy plums!"

Everyone one else didn't really care.

While everyone else seems to be mocking this, I'm pretty sure it must have some substance if the script writer is putting a claim in this far down the line.
Just imagine how the guy must feel.
Hands a script to Sony, they say no thanks, then 3 years later is appears as a video game from a Sony first party developer...
I know I'd probably be doing the same thing if in his shoes.

I could tell that isn't true though - tams' 'plums' won't be hairy for a couple of years at least.
