Sonic Unleashed

Postby mfnick » 11 Jul 2008, 13:20

Just read a little preview of this in Games TM last night. Sounds fan-bloody-tastic.

However they raised 4 concerns for me.
1. Theres an RPG hub world, where you can explore & talk to people :?
2. Theres some possibly unfair bottomless pits. Which sound quite worrying from what Games TM say.
3. All levels are based on real world locations. I want Morbius. The Green Hill Zone & Casino Zone. things like that. However they are supposed to have been given the Sega treatment to look hyper realistic. So could be OK.
4. The Werehog. Need I say more?

sonic went wrong when sega decided that dr robotnik should be called dr eggman - dr robotnik - midly sinister and evil sounding - dr eggman - sounds about as threatening as.... well.... an egg

sega are gonna need to pull something out of the bag to reinvigorate this series and ^ this doesnt sound great does it - rpg elements - gimme a break - its a platformer - its not an RPG, its not a shooter its a platformer - the sooner sega get this into their heads the better

unfortunately i fear the damage has already been done

Thats another thing that really p**ses me off. Why the f**k did they change it? What was wrong with Robotnik? Thats the name I & everyone else grew up with. Eggman sounds stupid.

They also f**ked up all of Sonics past when they decided that too. Anybody who's heard the name Kintobor will know what I mean by that.

Were-hog?

Oh, sega.. sega, sega, sega...

Fun fact - according to Sonic Adventure 2 (Battle), Eggman is the grandson of Dr Gerald ROBOTNIK. So technically they didnt change Robotnik to eggman, they just retired him.

Really? Thanks for clearing that up. But they didnt need to get rid of Robotnik in first place. Idiots, its fantasy he can be around forever.

I dont think he was a grandson, how would that explain sonic not ageing?

I believe Dr eggman was always the characters name, but for the european and amercian versions of the megadrive games they changed the name to robotnik for some reason.

I guess sonic team didn't want the confusion and decided to clear up the naming for all future games.
Kinda like how Contra was called Probotector in europe untill the newest versions.

Actually (and this is really geeky on my part). His original name is Dr Ovi Kintobor, a kind hearted scientist, but due to an accident (the same one that turned sonic from a regular brown hedgehog, to the blue one we now know and love) he was turned into Dr Ivo Robotnik.

Robotnik was originally the American/European name, whereas Eggman was the Japanese name. So when Sega made Sonic Adventure they had it so the English dubs called Dr Robotnik, 'Dr Eggman' as a kind of nickname.

Since Sonic Adventure 2 he adopted the Eggman name (since everyone kept calling him it). However he is still the same Dr Robotnik that has been fighting Sonic since the master system days. Of course his family name is still Robotnik, but it's doubtful that he'll ever be called this again.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Since the story is actually really good and quite significant for everything that has happened since.

Also, they play well too.

I quite like the idea of the Werehog - if they implement it well that is, I'm confident they will.

There were bottomless pits in the Megadrive Sonic games. Who could forget the infamous one in Mystic Cave zone. You've got to stand there waiting til the spikes finish you off aswell! Still catches me out to this day that one.

He always has been, and always will be, called Dr. Robotnik to me. Even the name Robotnik sounds cool and alot more appropriatethan freaking EGGMAN!!
Victory is just a prelude to the next battle.

I have the same general concerns about the game, but I am cautiously optimistic. Hopefully this will be Sonic's return to form.

Yep, didn't you hear? Kintober didn't help create Sonic. Namgge did. Rolls right off the tongue that. :x
