Who bought PS3 with no games?

The software tie-in ratio for the Japanese PS3 launch was less than one game sold. Looks like a lot of people bought PS3 purely to sell it on...

According to Japanese gaming bible Famitsu, the top three selling games at the PlayStation 3 launch in Japan over the weekend were Ridge Racer 7 (30,300 units), Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire (30,000 units) and Resistance: Fall of Man (20,889). Our calculator skills tell us that the grand total of software sales was 84,189 units.... read more

Who bought PS3 with no games?

I think you'll find that the biggest PS3 market will be in a little country called "ebay". :D

Who bought PS3 with no games?

Postby Garland_Green » 14 Nov 2006, 12:45

Weren't there more than 3 games for sale for the launch. I bet the other games would cover the extra 4,000 or so PS3s.

On the other hand I'm sure a lot of people bought the console for the purpose of selling it on for a profit. Which is a shame and an utter disgrace. They are taking up valuable space in the queue and taking the PS3 away from the genuine fans and gamers, just the make a quick buck.

It happened for the 360 and probably will happen again from the Wii. I think it's up to the manufacturers to produce enough of the item to cover as much of the demand as possible. I don't think they would lose many sales if they postponed the release for a few months to make more. (Kind of like what they are doing with the Euro release)

PS3s on Yahoo Auctions Japan

See how many there are for sale?

This was obviously going to happen. Get over it.

Interesting how Sony say have sold 88400 PS3s when they announced there'd only be 80000 for sale! (pushing up the rarity value beyond real figures)

People are probably waiting to talk to their bank managers to sort out bridging loans before chancing a game.

I’m shore some of the deficit will be covered (in part) by the other launch titles. Lets not forget, also, that it dose play blu-ray movies and (most) old PS1 & 2 games. Some people may have just wanted it just because it’s new and shiny. I’m shore a lot were bought to be sold and I’m surprised Sony (well, not that surprised) don’t try and stop this! They are making a lose on the dame things! Why should some greedy tit make a profit? I guess it looks good for the console in the fact that some people will pay a stupid price for it, makes the actual price look a bit nicer and gets them in the press! But wouldn’t it look better for Sony if they tried to put a stop to this? God knows they need some good PR! Sony may as well of released the PS3 on e-bay them self’s! They’d probably make some money! And they don’t give a stuff about the fans anyway!

from what ive read by people that were there, japanese business men and some gansters paid homeless chinese and chinese students to queue up and get the consoles. the first person to get a ps3 apparently couldnt understand a word of japanese when interviewed by the media.

also alot of people that bought them did want hardware only so they could sell them on.

truth is in the society we live in i dont see a problem with sticking them on ebay, plus if your a xbox or nintendo what better way of sticking it to sony fanboys that making them pay for your console by ripping them off?

Yeah, but... the PS3s sold out. SOLD OUT. As in, if there were more of them in the world, they would have sold more of them. They couldn't sell more because they weren't on the shelves to sell.

Not that the buyers were gamers, though. I expect most of the DS buyers are gamers... and actually wanted to play games on the console... and actually bought a game or two to play on it... :D

This is clearly for that weekend only (Japan only but then again whos still buying gamecubes and gameboys? Correct me if I'm wrong.) So bear in mind that all these machines especially the DS and 360 all have a large user base as well and the 360 sold out on launch date too, so thats not bad at all for the DS to be outselling the PS3 by 3 to 1 (even when you take into account theres only 84400 PS3s at launch, that is a big feat) For an older 'inferior' machine to still sell that much on the PS3s launch date is a big achievement. You also have to bear in mind that the Japanese market is feircely loyal to home based companys. The 360 is only just starting to pick up there now and thats only because of the blue dragon bundles. Microsoft could manufacture the best games console with every extra and the best specs at a reasonable price and the majority of the Japanese market would still prefer a Sony or Nintendo machine. My moneys on the Wii smashing both Sony and Microsoft. Come december it will be very interesting to see how things pan out for the big 3.

I thought the 360 failed to sell out in Japan at launch.
