HL2 Episode Two: PC vs. 360 movies

Postby StonecoldMC » 17 Oct 2007, 13:10

The differences between the 2 versions to me are not so big that it makes the 360 version look that inferior.

Ive got a PC in the house but ill be buying the Orange Box for my 360, value for money im really happy with what MS's box can do and it will take something spectacular(Crysis) to get me thinking about upgrading the old rig.

Its hard to see as the video quality is quite poor and the video's are not synced. Looks pretty much the same to me though. I do have a decent P.C, but I'll still be buying it for the 360 - less fear of it crashing, and I can play it on my HDTV from the comfort of my bed. Plus, I just prefer gaming on a console to a P.C, I always have done.

I think the PC Version looks slightly better due to the better lighting effects but the difference is not huge.

I would put a good bet on the Team fortress 2 being better on the 360 though.

the small videos made it hard to tell but i bet when i run it on MAX Evertything but at 2560 x 1600, it would of courselook much better than the 360 version...

But do you get ahivement points in the PC Version?

I don't think that Half-Life 2, as pretty as it is, will push the true capabilities on either of the platforms.

Now, the control methods...
But Master, does not the fire need water too? (Heh-heh)
Does not the mountain need the storm?
Does not your scrotum need kicking?

Cmon CVG, noones gaming on PC @ 1280x1024 anymore :P
I prefer this comparison to the Portal one though as it makes more sense
What about sound? :P it would be cool to get a comparison on the audio, 5:1 on both systems and headphones on both with surround emulation on a xfi on the PC

Hard to tell because of the small videos.
I prefer the PC version because I want to play at 1920x1200 with crisp textures. Thats not possible on an xbox360 and also because of the controls. I am used to mouse and keyboard and I suck with gamepad ;)

Looks pretty darn close with the PC version having slightly better lighting. Still not upgrading my PC when the 360 version at 1080p looks pretty darn fantastic on my HDTV. Still waiting for a couple of PC games to justify $1000 (atleast) in upgrades. Crysis alone isn't worth it.

YOU DON'T NEED TO f**king UPGRADE! :x This is still essentially the same technology as HL2 which was released 3 years ago! If you could run it then, you can run it now!

I would have liked to get this on my pc but as my nvidia card has just died, 360 it is. I honestly cannot see it being inferior to the pc version in any way at all other than maybe the control system, as we all know the mouse and keyboard set up is the daddy as far as fps's go.

Anyway, shame my original Xbox won't be able to handle this game. I'm not upgrading to 360 just for this though. PC it is.

Wrong.
compared to the source engine released with the original Half-Life 2 there are a couple of new features. HDR rendering introduced in Episode One and the new dynamic shadows and the motion blur introduced with episode2/orange box. Also the textures seem to have a higher resolution. In fact, you need a little bit more power if you want to have all this features enabled.

Still essentially the same technology. If your PC could handle HL2 respectably, it will handle this respectably. That's the beginning and end of the matter.

But te XBOX360 only does have 720p max. resolution.
Higher resolutions are just scaled up from 720p - no native 1080p :(

The 360 version looks very close to the PC version, but really comparison videos ought to be in HD resolution instead of compressed flash crap.

PC version will have better everything of course, but from the looks of this video you aren't missing out on much with the 360 version.
