Half-Life 2 gets official Oculus Rift VR support

Postby puddlejumper92 » 10 May 2013, 22:55

I thought this hasn't even been released yet. Except for developer kits.

So what is the point in releasing content right now?

Preparation. Valve like their stuff to be ready and working to their own high standards from the go.

Ravenholm just became a whole lot more spooky.

Can any game developed in the early noughties really be all that scary in 2013? Trying to playthrough old SP games today, can be quite jarring.

Oculus Rift will probably need a killer app, as in a new release with support. Something like Outlast could be pretty scary with the Rift.

You get alot of developer beta tests on steam that are password protected, usually during the testing phase before the release of new dlc for games so i'd think the Rift is doing the same thing here, my guess is that if they test it out on HL2 and filter out bugs or any issues with the engine then once its actually released we'll see it on the left for dead games, portal games, team fortress 2, counter strike, gmod and all the other source powered games so when its released valve have got most their games running fine with it, sort of like what they done with controller support and big picture mode

I'd love a shot of this, HL2 would be amazing on the Rift along with pretty much all the source games, i think i'll be interested in it enough to buy one once it finally comes around if its getting the support from big devs especially like valve.

I'd rather see the headline "Half Life 3 gets Oculus Rift support". HL2 is still a great game, but come on Valve, stop torturing your HL fans.
