Critical hits: The 20 biggest third-party exclusive games

The Resident Evil remake & Resident Evil Zero weren't the only Capcom games from their exclusivity deal with Nintendo to see the light of day (and remain exclusive), there was also PN03.

Seeing Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast made me realise my Playstation was out of date.

You need to change your cover image. It undermines the entire point of the article, since its the cover of Timesplitters 2 which wasn't an exclusive.

Also since i saw you were including PC in the whole whether something is exclusive or not argument. MGS came out on PC as did silent hill 2, 3 and 4. Silent hill 3 also came out on xbox as well.

surprised you didn't mention any of mystwalkers games since all of those have been exclusives to one console or another and have made square recent JRPGs look shocking in comparision.

It's a second party exclusive because the ip is owned by microsoft.

here's each potential type of exclusive and how they're roughly defined.

1st party, game ip and dev both owned by the platform holder. eg. Mario, Halo, Uncharted,

2nd party, game ip owned by the platform holder, dev isnt. eg. Gears of War. The Last Story,

3rd party neither ip or dev is owned by the platform holder eg, the stuff on this list.

PN03 wasnt a critical hit, while it got some good marks and is one of those 'cult hits' it didnt get alot of sales, which is why titles like that were ommitted.

Not strictly true. To be classed as second party, a game just needs to be published by the platform holder; they don't need to own the IP.

For example, the independent developer Quantic Dream owns the IP for Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, but the games are published by Sony so they're 2nd party.

Doesn't "console exclusive" mean something is only on consoles?

Actually the IP for Gears of War is owned by Epic. Microsoft just "incentivised" Epic to make it for 360.
