Ask CVG Anything: Your dream game, most memorable ending?

Postby smmac41 » 06 Apr 2013, 13:45

One of my most memorable endings is Panzer Dragoon Saga.
I've always enjoyed when a game breaks the fourth wall.

Oh, and the first time I saw the (extended) ending to Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

The ending to Red Dead Redemption. Proper gutting that was.
Here's a lockpick, now jog on.

>When I was 17 I started drawing pictures of my dream video game, a fighting game where the entire roster was made up of horror film characters. ... It would obviously be a legal nightmare to make

Nah, they just need to get the team of lawyers from the Super Robot wars franchise.

> On one hand there's nothing I hate more than lengthy, compulsory tutorials at the start of a game

Surely the answer here is Achievements? You strt the game, it reads your achievements to see if you've got certain achievements for other, similar games and skips you the tutorial if you already have.

My most memorable endings...

Red Dead Redemption, and The Walking Dead, they were painful to watch.
Final Fantasy X, for the Aeons in the last fight.
Max Payne 3's "You'll walk...with a limp" line.
Hitman: Blood Money, just when you think it's the end for 47...BAM!
The end of Primal is another I've always remembered, and I still feel that it was left open for a sequel...doubt it will happen though.

I have more...but I'm tired from all the writing.

I loved the light gun games on the Wii. Well. the Sega ones (Ghost Squad especially) and Links Crossbow Training. Some of them do take the p**s at full price, but I'm sure LCT and Ghost Squad were around £20-£25 on release.

I think it's a bit early to say Nintendo's franchises are losing appeal... how they do on the Wii U may show that more. The last versions of the big franchises shifted obscene numbers on the Wii (even Smash Bros outsold pretty much every other exclusive on other platforms bar maybe Halo 3); fair enough that was a few years ago, but nothing has happened to say this has changed. Mario Kart and Mario 3D Land have sold something like 7m+ on 3DS, NSMBU has sold to 1 out 2 Wii U owners...

A lot of people don't like Nintendo's more family friendly approach, they want stuff that is 'mature'. But then again I've known people like that since the 16bit days, who thought the SNES was too 'kiddie' compared to the MD!

Hmmm. Favourite ending... favourite ending... I remember watching the Sonic CD ending over and over for the cool animation and catchy tune back in the day.
My recent playthrough of The Walking Dead was pretty damn memorable.
I loved the end part of the first Mass Effect game with the whole Reaper inside the Citadel/Saran fight- most epic in a geeky sci-fi way. Also the track M4 Part 2 that played at the end gave me ear orgasms.
The ending to Ninja Gaiden Black on Xbox- the ending itself was donkey muck but knowing I had beaten the game was oh so satisfying.
The last bit of Castlecrashers was the biggest WTF ever- which I found hilarious.

Why have C&VG merged their content with GamesMaster? I was an avid collector of PSM3 and XBOX WORLD too, which also had reviews, previews and features appear from these pages. I love the originality of the brands on store shelves, so why is C&VG so incessant in decreasing the value of the magazine by merging its content?

Its funny you say that because I beat the game (for the first time) about 2 months ago and I can't remember a damn thing about the ending. Totally left my mind

I quite liked the Darkness 2 ending (having only beat it last week) but Arkham city, Beyond good and evil and Mafia 2 are some of the real stand outs to me.

Honourable mentions to Darksiders for the "No, not alone" fist pumping quip and Kane and Lynch 2 for just ending. It. Just. Ends. I was so confused I sat there through the whole credits with a puzzled look on my face :?

The complete ending of MediEvil (for PS1/PSN) is unbelievable good!! After you face so many chalenges as Sir Dan to live up his legend, the end of his quest is so deserving, so PERFECT... If you never played this game, GO GET IT, it's a wonderful, fun, diverse and rewarding game. And the complete ending is astonishing!!

Cvg: how would you like to see cut-scenes in the next MGS to evolve, if at all?
I'd like to see them maintain a little more plot focus and have the more spuriois
details uncoverable in documents/audio log type things rather than wade through
half an hours worth of techno-babble that makes you forget what they were on about in the first place.

The ending to 'To The Moon'... That game...
'Bioshock Infinite''s ending is still stuck in my head nearly a week later, too.

Most memorable endings for me are metal gear solid 3, heavy rain, kingdom hearts 1 and god of war 3.
