Wii U's Miiverse gets two new updates

Postby Taus » 05 Apr 2013, 09:45

Still baffled as to what the point of the Miiverse actually is

It loads, you see loads of Mii's with random comments, you load your game

What's the point beyond a random, seemingly chaotic, home screen?

Personally, I used it for making rubbish puns in NSMBU, and improving my ability to draw Mario. It definitely works best when integrated into games: otherwise, it's something that's just fun to have, but is far from necessary. :D

Miiverse is the games and the communities, like message boards, not the mass of miis you see on the home screen, that's the plaza or whatever it's called.

It's not something I use every day, but it's a good feature. The community isn't full of t**ts (or Nintendo moderate it very well) and it's had some good uses regarding games, recommendations on what to buy etc.

The home screen is the Plaza not the actual Miiverse.

For me, Miiverse is the best thing about the Wii U and has by far been the biggest reason for me switching the console on.

Of course it would baffle you if you have never even seen it, which you obviously haven't.

Miiverse is like an easily accessible forum, one handy use: you're stuck on Monster Hunter because you can't figure out where to get a Golden Bone (hehe) for that upgraded Switch Axe you want; hit the Home button and seamlessly open up the MH forum on Miiverse; ask the question on the open forum; hit Home and travel seamlessly back in to your hunt; 10 minutes later hit Home and travel back in to Miiverse to check for responses to your question; sorted.

It's an excellent idea and I hope the next Xbox and PS4 have a similiar accessory.

You are thinking about the WaraWara plaza.

Miiverse is a social network. The service is great. Microsoft/Sony would be nuts not to copy it. It gives singleplayer gaming a social aspect. You see something interesting in game, you can post the screenshot to comment. You get stuck on a level/part, you can post a screenshot and ask for help... I see Sony is allowing you to post videos/screenshots to facebook, I think that is by far the wrong approach, as you will be bugging the p%%# out of your friends who do not game.

Developers can leverage miiverse to increase traffic to their product on the e-shop... there is always someone asking "is this game worth it" and the responses are usually a ton of tiny little reviews for the software. Indie dev's and big publishers have made public comments on how it creates more sales that otherwise wouldn't happen.

Its a welcome addition, and they are still improving it. From what I hear they are going to be adding voice messaging, party chat, and open it up to smartphone/tablet/PC/Mac users...... think of it as Nintendo's implementation of facebook, but with a strong gaming discussion bent.

I think Taus probably has all the responses and contradictions he requires now...

I like the MiiVerse myself. Its all friendly and nice and quick to get into if I want to check on one of the channels or get a tip or 2 on the games. :)
Optimus Prime: I want you to go in that bag, and find my wallet.
Megatron: Which one is it?
Optimus Prime: It's the one that says Bad motherf**ker

Keep it up Nintendo, by the time I get my Wii U when Mario Kart and a 3D Mario game drops the system environment should be top notch. :)
