HMV rescued with £50m deal; outlets and jobs saved

Postby mrlister » 05 Apr 2013, 02:47

This is nice. I used to work in an HMV that has already gone, but I guess there is a chance it may return. It was quite a key location, but the rent was ridiculous apparently. It'll be interesting to see what they do to the business to turn it around... It'll have to be quite original I think, if it's gonna work.

Wonder why the news has taken a while to hit as it must of been known for about a week as i live in Leamington and was in HMV last week and they were announcing they were staying open and would soon be restocked (in fact they clearly had been restocked as the week or so before there was barely anything left and all the electrical stuff had gone).

Hope they do a better job this time though as the problem i had with buying stuff in HMV was it was always so much more expensive then other shops in town or the internet (even their webshop was more expensive then other places).

Soon as they went down the pan. I knew they would be rescued.
My local HMV is staying open, which i'm glad about. They had a closing down sale and are now having a "we're here to stay" sale. All in the space of a couple of weeks :P

Glad i raided their anime section during the closing down sale.

Good, HMV seemed to be the only place you could actually physically buy new dvds and blu-rays

I did the same thing, went straight for the anime. The sale wasn't great got Eden of the East complete collection. Couldnt bring myself to pay a tenner for the Trigun movie though.

I hope our HMV stays open, it would leave a horrible hole in the shopping centre.

Was it Grafton Street, Dublin by any chance? Rent on that location is literally €1,000,000:

I'm kind of a big deal...

I just hope their pricing is finally realistic to the current economy.
EA Sports: It's in the game(for a price).
