First eyes-on showcases stylish return

The most important tools in any thief's arsenal are his or her hands, and that's certainly true of Thief's returning star Garrett. Pick-pockets need dexterous digits, of course, to lift prized possessions from victims' pockets and slip away unnoticed. But for Eidos Montreal, the studio heading up this 2014 return, that simple premise is only the starting point.... read more

Thief preview: Creep, steal, kill - next gen comeback goes f

Other than Metal Gear this is the only game I'm excited about so far.
Now I just need a better job to save for that PS4!

I hope they pull this off, the only things I have not liked the sound of are the stupid focus mode and hearing that you can take on 4+ soldiers if need be.....That could be enough to kill it for me tho...

Oh S**T, I just read further along that they have put QTEs in, ah well another great game ruined, wont be buying this now, what a shame, 10 years of waiting for nothing!

Is this really what next gen brings, QTEs, lazy programing, come up with a way to use a pad properly!

Christ talk about over-reacting! Tomb Raider had QTE's, didnt stop it from being a brilliant game.

Im looking forward to this, looks really cool. I heard its next gen exclusive so ill have to pick it up on the ps4/nextbox whenever its out.

Should can this before they waste any more money on it, can see how this is going to play out already, sounds like DMC all over again. Thief purists/hardcore fans won't get it because it disrespects the Thief legacy by adding optional new stuff that is supposed to attract new players and the new players won't get it either because it ain't CoD.

I'm sure someone will mention the dreaded A word eventually. Very cynical post I know. Personally I blame the publishers, I know purists are always going to bitch at the slightest of changes but publishers have got to find a way to make their games accessible to newcomers while also not alienating purists, I'm sure it's doable.

Thief's standard melee fighting is still under wraps for now, but the demo's final scuffle is a Focus-fuelled affair that's a bastard combination of QTE and rhythm-action game.

I wouldn't write it off just yet, seems like it was filler for the demo and not the finalized input for the melee system.

I'm personally liking to the look of this and its a welcome return for the stealth genre. Seems alot of nice touches and detail has been implemented. Hopefully a launch title for PS4.

Promising. Hopefully not overly dumbed down for the modern brainless generation of button mashers. Not liking the sound of how many tips you are given on what to do next, that usually just makes for a very linear, very 'press this now, walk here, press this, win' experience which the Thief series was never like.

Also worried about being able to take on the guards so easily. This was possible in earlier Thief games but was always a last resort, you were not a fighter, and could easily die to guards who were usually stronger than you. If you can just beat everyone up in this one then why hide in the shadows? Is this going to be just like Dishonored where you're supposed to be stealthy and cunning but there's actually no point / reward for doing so, and the direct sword to the face method works just as well. Hope not. That is not the way of the Thief.

1) its out on PC and console (being 1st person I will choose KBAM over controller for a FPS just my preference)

2) I am not a fan of QTE's but as long as there is not too many and they work ok it will all be good.

3) If you have been waiting 10 years why let a few (hopefully) QTE's put you off?
What you need to remember is that there's what people want to hear, there's what people want to believe, there's everything else, THEN there's the truth!

Not sure about this, but hopefull? The part about ticking Hollywood boxes makes my stomach turn; I wish the Hollywood rule book would p**s off out of gaming for good. And it's looking incredibly similar to dishonored in a couple of respects. To be honest I doubt this game would have even been considered if it wasn't for the dishonored paving the way with it's out of the blue success. Dishonored was clearly in debt to the Thief series (even referencing it in an Easter egg) but seems like Thief wants a piece of pie now it seems there's still a market for it. Secret was, there always was a market for it.. it just wasn't what everybody else was doing.
