GameStop blames 'disappointing' Wii U sales on lack of games

Postby Penguin101 » 28 Mar 2013, 22:50

As a Nintendo supporter I have to admit Nintendo need to hire a new PR company, because their marketing and advertising is dire when it is shown and non-existent at the moment.

Nintendo should be shoving the Wii U down our throats until we buy one just to shut them up!

People are saying this may be Nintendo's Dreamcast but it's wrong to say that. The Dreamcast had games.

In fact they should show some nasty saggy old lady boobs flapping in the wind with the slogan "Buy a Wii U,or we'll keep on showing this commercial" or "Every time you buy a Wii U, the lady will get younger, and firmer"

Monster Hunter may have, but Nintendo didn't. In all fairness Nintendo have sold a LOT of consoles without any (or any decent) advertising.

he's right, nintendo have done pretty much the worst job ever in selling the wii u.

little advertising
lack of "big" system seller games
slow downloads / installation
content and account locked to system
the frankly stupid name
confusing marketing, people dont know what it is.

they need to get wii fit u (sounds like porn) out and a new "wii fit girl" style video to go viral

It's been a complete clusterfuck and it's all Nintendos fault.

Maybe something to do with their realisation that the cost of making their 1st party games up to the technical standard of games nowadays is sky high, they have not kept their focus on the all important part of advertising and marketing their console.

Let's hope that when these 1st party games come out, they will rock all our worlds.
Optimus Prime: I want you to go in that bag, and find my wallet.
Megatron: Which one is it?
Optimus Prime: It's the one that says Bad motherf**ker

The fact is that Nintendo faces an ever-shrinking window of opportunity to resuscitate the Wii U sales. PS4 is gaining momentum and Sony has managed to win the hearts and minds across the board since their announcement in late February. It also won't be long before Microsoft reveals the new Xbox and it will be even more difficult for Nintendo then. it is beguiling how the company has failed to market their new console effectively and even more strange that their biggest games were missing for this new console at launch date. Can you imagine what a Zelda game could have done for the Wii U last Christmas? Nintendo rushed the console to the market but left the games behind! They probably wanted to steal a march on the big two but did exactly the opposite by failing to ensure that there were enough first party games to keep the buyers satisfied through the first six months, a critical time for any new console. The continuing poor press does not help and instead builds a picture for any potential customer that this is a console to avoid thus making the job even harder. Nintendo needs to do something now even if it is only to start marketing the console and talk about what games are coming. It needs to do this now and in no small measure. Consider this - Sony is making sure that we all know what is coming in the next few months for the PS3 even while it is talking about the PS4, and they have ensured that there are many decent titles that will be available for their ageing console right through to the end of the year. Nintendo can't seem to talk about their NEW console!

I hope the Wii U makes it but this will only happen if Nintendo acts now. By E3 it may well be too late.

Finally someone hits the nail on the head and about time.

On a flip side is Nintendo not concerned because they are waiting for MS and Sony to launch and then kick their marketing into over drive?

It's not the norm but questions do beg

The lack of advertising and the meager line up of 1st and 3rd party games makes the Wii U look like it was almost rushed to market and any marketing that happens now is some what of an after thought. It is looking ordinary for the Wii U considering Sony has the spotlight already and it hasn't even shown the console yet and Microsoft are going to take even more of the attention away from Nintendo when they reveal their hand. I would be very nervous if I was a Nintendo share holder right now. It ain't over till its over but its looking grim at the moment.
