HMV slashes UK Wii U premium bundle to £200

Postby Gambini » 22 Mar 2013, 16:09

Ouch.

Even at that price, I think the WiiU is going to struggle. It's in a "no mans land" of a generation between the last (current) gen and next gen in terms of power and performance.

They would have easily shifted units if they just called it the Wii 2, purely on the general public perception that anything numbered is better than it's predecessor. I bet 8 out of 10 Wii owners don't even know that the Wii U is a new console...

A lot more reasonable a price than the absurd £350 it launched at. Cant say im gonna be interested until its closer to £100 though, should be some actual games available by that point too.

HMV slashes UK Wii U premium bundle to £200

Postby beastie » 22 Mar 2013, 16:15

If there are no games to play on it then they could be selling it for £120 and it still wouldn't shift.

Really for most gamers we have come to know that we will be replacing our consoles this year, and £200 could go quite a way towards a real next gen console

Sorry Nintendo but you done messed up

HMV slashes UK Wii U premium bundle to £200

I can't even be angry that I paid £140 more than HMV's current price for the same bundle just four months ago: this is an outstanding deal and an absolute bargain for anyone willing to give the Wii U a chance. If you believe in Nintendo's ability and vision, buying it as a future investment (with the two best Wii U exclusives currently available) is a no-brainer.

Damn!! Wished I wanted a few more weeks before purchasing mine. BTW loving the console - best nintendo console yet! Got 9 games on my to buy list so good times ahead. Shame though that I could have saved some £££ but that's how things go - not going to bitch like most people do on these MBs.

HMV slashes UK Wii U premium bundle to £200

I agree - despite being historically a nintendo fan (and when people claim this will be another Gamecube - i wish!! I loved the gamecube plus it was technically on a level with it's generation, marginally better than PS2, marginally worse than xbox in a way that the Wii never was) i just don't see what this console brings to the table, even at that price.

Ok yes, i know as soon as a new zelda is out i'll probably get one, but it will be grudgingly

Nintendo just haven't made enough of a leap above the current generation - ok so it's more powerful than the wii, but not so much the other consoles, let alone the ones coming up. Just feel it's a major mis-step by nintendo. They should have waited till they had triple A titles to make it difficult not to want one at launch, rather than retreads of what everyone has already played in the last year.

Mmmmm I haven't seen that price at my HMV store - so not too sure how wide spread the price quoted is. Oh well very good price if you can find it - both games are great fun to play! :)

I have to confess I don't know much about the Wii U, so reading that news I was tempted to look into getting one. But having done that I can honestly say that there isn't a single game out for it that interests me.

I think that Nintendo may be in trouble here. The Wii was a sales phenomenon, due to the 'causal gamer'. If those same people aren't going to buy the Wii U then who is?

By the time that they've beefed up their library the next gen PS4 and Xbox will be out, and that's where my money will be going.

By neglecting the 'hardcore gamer' (for want of a better term) with the Wii, gamers and publishers have already learned their lesson by rejecting the Wii U, now the retailers are ready to leave the party too.

Not good for Nintendo, but at least the rest of us are on the same page.

Publishers don't want to make games for it, retailers don't want to stock it and we don't want to buy it.

Nintendo failed with the launch of the WII U due to one simple factor, there aren't enough good games out for the console. This will undoubtedly change over the space of this year but it still isn't good news for Nintendo that retailers seem to be losing faith with them.

Great price, and some decent stuff is coming up, but it needs a sustained period of decent releases. HMV have been on fire sale mode for a lot of stuff since they went in to administration.

Still not sure when this £205 trade rumour became fact though.

There Nintendo were, cruising along like the manatee with no worries until the glass sheet of no games bonked them right on the nose.

NIntendo and the fanoys would have us believe there is nothing wrong.....I cant remember a newly launched console that this has happened to. The 3DS had a price drop, but that was an official drop and it was selling way more than the Wii U at the time.

I really hope i have not invested in a lame duck here! My Wii U hasn't been turned on other than to check for updates for weeks! :(

Update: HMV has told CVG that the discount deal will take effect nationwide from March 25 and will only be available while stock lasts.]

I was in HMV Sheffield today and noticed that they're already doing that bundle right now.
