"Kotaku revelling in what, due to their self-smugness, they don't realise is a sad day for our industry, which is the platform on which they actually make money,"
It's not a sad day for the industry, in my eyes (the misinformed apparantly) it really isn't. What is sad is that someone as unfortunate as Moore could follow in his footsteps.
"John not only helped propel our company and interactive entertainment into new experiences,
He didn't. He released sequels. Introduced microtransactions and had a bad hair cut. No amount of PR guff can gloss over the potential scenario that an EGM was held between the shareholders and the board, performance was discussed and future actions - nothing of real worth (or reassurance) was delivered by the board and so a golden goodbye was arranged - which is one move short of the dreaded vote of "no confidence" which would destroy a company's stock overnight.
So the best way to get a new direction, without causing a huge drama either by a sacking, no confidence vote or rotating staff (can't polish a turd) is to pay him off. Happens in most company's these days.
thus enticing millions of new people to become 'gamers',
I think that has more to do with CoD than anything else.
