Gears of War: Judgment review: As drum-tight as ever, if ove

A true trial by fire

No mere expansion, Judgment is Gears of War, a fully-fledged sequel with an eight-hour campaign, all the multiplayer modes you'd expect, and two new ones. It's also a bit of a curveball. What represents a failure in proposal (case in point: we've just had to waste precious words reiterating that this game isn't an expansion) is a success in execution.... read more

A score's just an opinion. Im sure other CVG staff would have given GOW a higher score and some lower.

Is this how it's going to be with every single review? Snide comments about the scores in comparison to other games? Stop focusing on the numbers so much!

CoD' still the same CoD as ever each year, but you don't let THAT stop you from spraying it with man juices.

Also...

a fully-fledged sequel with an eight-hour campaign

You honestly call a measly eight hours "fully-fledged" like it's an acceptable and decent length for a single-player campaign?

When did a campaign that's not in the double-digits become the acceptable norm? To me, that's pathetic. You've got hundreds, even thousands, more people working on games today with much bigger budgets than we had a decade ago, and yet we've getting games that are a fraction of the length now.

I guess this is what happens when every major developer wants to just to pump out yearly sequels as a quick cash-cow.

^ CVG gave Black Ops 2 a 7.8.

Try harder.

That's still at least 2.8 more than it should have gotten.

I mean... do review sites and magazines these days even realise that there are numbers below 5?

The biggest problem with Judgment is the map design. The maps are too narrow, too messy and there's too much focus on FFA. There's almost no sense of strategy anymore. They are like bigs mazes where you're mostly running around like a headless chicken, being able to attack and being attacked from every corner. There are almost no "safe zones" from where you can act as a team and advance (think Blood Drive).

This game needs more maps, quickly! With more focus on playing as teams.

Sure, it's personal what you prefer. But the old maps define Gears online!

Are you arguing CoD should score less, Judgment score more or both score less?

I imagine if PCF hadn't added so much new stuff that Judgment would be receiving a lot more 7's right now. Unless PCF totally messed it up it was never going to get under a 7 because Gears simply has a tried and tested formula.

Also the game has been designed to be replayed too so in effect you could get 16 hours of play from the SP.

CVG do know this is a Xbox 360 only game? So why no '11 out of 10' then? lol
