Guess I won't be trading in my PS3 against a PS4. Will have to trade the car instead :D

I know this was going to happen at some stage but this makes me very sad. Christ all those games I have on the console what a waste. If Xbox do this to me as well I've wasted ALOT of money

Not such a big deal. I don't see the fuss about backwards compatibility. We need to be embracing the new technology!
If they did make backwards compatibility a feature I think the only way worth doing it would be to have the entire back catalogue of PS1 and PS2 titles available to stream for free, or possibly a small annual charge. That would be a pretty attractive feature, and completely possible with this new streaming tech they're including.

Have they mentioned anything about your actual account though, like will the username and trophies or whatever carry over?
Here's a lockpick, now jog on.

Well if they can at least offer us some digital titles on the streaming service I will be happy

I only have 5-6 Digital titles. But would still be nice to be able to play em if my PS3 packs in (I am using an old 80gig Fat model)

They had better. People are going to riot if they don't.

Isn't this why Gaikai could come in really handy?

I'm torn, wasn't expecting backwards compatibility but a digital download should still be valid.

Does this mean physical copies of PS3 games won't work?

It doesn't really make sense if they are replacing backwards compatibility with a streaming service that could include every PS1, PS2 and PS3 game. Unless they are actually planning on recharging you for digital content you have already purchased, in which case they better still make the stuff I have had to delete from my hard drive available should I require it. I'm sure they have a get out clause in the T&Cs but as long as they give me warning so I download everything to my PS3 before they close it down it isn't a major issue.

I have spent a fair amount on digital games but haven't bought anything in ages due to my limited bandwidth, and I barely play digital games as it is. I'll probably hold onto the PS3 but when the PS4 is here, I don't see much point in going back a generation.

they wont be because the two systems architecture are vastly different, thus meaning simply downloading the game to your new system wont work. The PS3 was built with the Cell Architecture where as the PS4 is built with the x86 which is a PC standard. it would mean recoding the whole game or Sony spending a metric f**k-ton of money developing a PS3 emulator, which they wont do because they didnt even do that for the PS2 to PS3 after the first laucnh models.

But they have said PS1, PS3 and PS3 games can be streamed to the PS4. They haven't said if it would be the entire catalogue of each machine, or how it will work with regards to pricing.
