It' funny the way Sony underlines the use of motion gaming YEARS BEFORE Microsoft.

Best console ever? Probably. I'm now in the mood for some PS2 gaming today. Gonna play Gradius V, R-Type Final, Raiden III, Ridge Racer V, Contra: Shattered Soldier and Maximo. My thumbs are in for some serious punishment.
I like cake.

I was thinking the same thing, Eye Toy was a staple of house parties when I was in college, and a gateway to gaming for many people who usually shrugged it off like coeds and elders.

I remember selling of my Laserdisc player and most of my LDs to get my PS2 along with Zone of the Enders a few months after it launched. One of my biggest gaming memories, along with DMC, GTA III, Vice City & San Andreas, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus, Dragon Quest VIII finally localized, the anticipation for MGS2, the heartbreaking ending of MGS3, the PES games ending on early sunday mornings, the countless hours pumped into Gran Turismo 3, hidden gems like Whiplash and Viewtiful Joe, and so forth... I'd put the PS2 up there with the NES and the Genesis on my home consoles top 3. Truly a great machine in spite of a rocky start, which might be reassuring for WiiU and Vita owners.

EXCELLENT gaming console the PS2 was:-P Saying that i was happy with the PS1 & now am happy with the PS3. ALL 3 consoles have been BRILLIANT:-P (whatever people say online about the PS3 it's a brilliant gaming machine. Internet hate(about pointless stuff) couldn't stop me & other PS3 owners from enjoying this gen on the PS3) lol

I got mine on launch day from Game with Tekken Tag Tournament and FIFA 2001. If the game selections weren't bad enough the p**s taking went further with every shop being sold out of memory cards, so whatever I did play didn't matter. It took 4 days for HMV to get some in but by that time I was busy on Shenmue on my Dreamcast.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to stay on my toes.

Same here, TTT and Smugglers Run I think it was. One of my favourite games on the ps2 (and it doesn't get mentioned a lot) was Sky Oddyssey!

Anyone else play it? It really did have a great variety of missions and the extra game modes weren't the tacked on rubbish we get nowadays.

Smuggler's Run!!! I loved that game, it was the one I bought with the console. Amazing graphics and freedom to just drive anywhere.

I remember being p*ssed off coz the guy in the store hadn't told me I needed a memory card to save my game!

Most games for a console ever surely?

I think it's more the fact that they dropped the ball with the PS3 after the majesty of the first too. It's a great gaming machine is the PS3 but I never loved it as much as PS1 or 2.

But I get a feeling they will redeem themselves with the PS4.

I love the PS3 nowadays as much as the PS2, and in fact more than the PS1. But it wasn't always so. The frustratingly slow start and early years of the PS3 eventually made me abandon (current gen) console gaming for a couple of years - in favour of the PC - but I returned as the call of all the exclusives and PS+ proved irresistible. Also the PS3 unfortunately caused billions of dollars of losses for Sony in 2006-08, which is another reason to call it flawed.

I got my PS2 at the EU launch with Ridge Racer V, SSX and Fantavision. Won a Ridge Racer launch event contest and a nice Playstation winter coat. It was the first console that I didn't import and I've been buying Euro consoles ever since.

I remember being blown away when I saw the opening of Dark Cloud. All those people dancing on the same screen!
