Batman: Arkham 3 to release in 2013, Warner confirms

Postby StonecoldMC » 12 Feb 2013, 15:21

Didn't enjoy the sequel as much as I did the original, dont know if it was the open world feel to it or whatever, ill still be interested to see where they take this one.

If Rocksteady and Paul Dini aren't involved though . . . . .

I too enjoyed Asylum more than City, but they're still both fantastic games.

But...

I have no problem about Dini's departure, especially if they get Scott Snyder on board instead.

But no Rocksteady? Man, they're gonna have a hard time finding a worthy successor...

Scott Snyder on the new game would be amazing, but between Batman and his new Superman series I doubt he'll get involved.

Still though, I am so pumped for this.

Considering joint sales of the two Batman games from Rocksteady are at approx. 10 million copies in total I don't think Warner Bros. should be looking elsewhere!

This is a case of fixing it when it aint broke!

So.........no Rocksteady, no Dini, supposedly going to be like 50's Batman, possible inclusion of Superman.

I'm out, for now.

I'm not a huge fan of Synders work on Batman, Now if they managed to get Grant Morrison involved i'd be all over it.

Yeah I think any new dev working on the arkham series after rocksteady would have some huge boots to fill.

If they're not working on it though, then what are they doing? Part of me really hopes they're working on superman game. Its a tougher job than Batman from a games perspective but i think they'd be more than up to the challenge.

Co-developed by Gearbox and nStigate (formerly Nihilistic) with bug testing by Bethesda.

Make it happen.
Here's a lockpick, now jog on.

Rocksteady aren't owned by Warner so if they're not doing Batman then I suspect they're not working with Warner. I think I read somewhere after Arkham City's release that they might do a Turtles game. Given how good the latest TV series is and there being a film in the works, I think the Turtles will soon be very hot property.

Besides, what more can Rocksteady do with the Batman franchise anyway? I'm sure the staff there have had their fill of Batman's world for a while. They'll surely want to work on something fresher.

I've heard that Codemasters are doing it and the end boss is Dizzy.

Not original developer, not original writer and probably not original voice talent either. This will be a tough sell

I don't want to condemn a game with zero information available but I suspect it will be an uphill struggle for WB at least to the informed audience.

If none of the original talent is involved don't use the brand. Make it a spin off or an entirely new franchise. I'm sure a game based in Batman Beyond universe would be popular or the previously rumoured golden age Batman.

Just like the Nolan's triology anything new bearing the moniker must be handled with care lest the brand become diluted

Asylum was so much tighter in story. The scarecrow was brilliant , also, a secret batcave. City good start, strong characters but lost its way in the size of the city

I loved both Asylum and City. Think Asylum was so popular as it came out of nowhere and surprised everyone, whereas City was burdened with huge expectation, but managed to meet most of it personally. Scarecrow definitely a huge miss in City so hope he is brought back.

However, as everyone else points out, without Rocksteady (and presumably without the Joker, unless there is some Lazarus Pit shenanigans) I am a little hesitant until I see more...

Arkham City had such a lengthy marketing and advertising period, and a considerably long "polishing time", considering Rocksteady said the game was practically done a year before release. To announce a sequel to that in such a manner, and be rumored for release in the same year leads me to believe this will either be some sort of mobile game or some other pile of wank.
