Interview: Shigeru Miyamoto on Wii U's future

For me Nintendo wouldn't be Nintendo if it wasn't for Shigeru Miyamoto.

I've seen a few interviews with Miyamoto, and the man doesn't speak well. But when you're 60, and the mastermind behind some of the greatest games to exist, you don't need to be. And with Pikmin 3 being his current project, he doesn't seem to be stopping quite yet.

My main worry is that when he does, there won't be anyone there to replace him.

You're obviously thinking the same as me but you're just too afraid to say it publicly. Well don't be, I completely agree, the only person that can replace him is Stealth.

Or my grandad.

He has some pretty good ideas. He once went upstairs, shouted down he was RoboCop then came running in covered in foil. That's ingenuity and dedication right there. His doctor agrees.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to stay on my toes.

For example Nintendo Land, which is going to debut with the launch of the Wii U system. We've included a variety of games inside of it, some of them will be able to show the way the future of gameplay

i have to ask, when he says things like the above, just how long has this interview been sat on the shelves before you decided to publish it?

Get the feeling Shigeru will be doing a lot of interviews in defense of the Wii u - just like for the VirtualBoy!

The wii u will not be another virtual boy it's already sold far too many units. The vita has more chance of being a new virtual boy.

It's a feature from GamesMaster, which means the issue has probably already been released, and the interview would have to have been prepared before that.

Despite being a big critic of the current Wii U...

I'll probably pick one up when Nintendo FIX all their apps and bring out a new Zelda and Mario!
