TimeSplitters 4 failed due to complex plot, post-Haze skepti

Postby karkify » 27 Nov 2012, 01:52

It's understandable. Haze was mediocre at best, even I'd be wary to touch Timesplitters again after it (despite my unending love for the series). I just hope something happens to this franchise, instead of fading into obscurity. One last game would suffice. Make or break, if it works, continue it, if it doesn't then maybe it's time to end it for good. Its multiplayer is a perfect fit for current consoles, with a map editor to boot.
Judging from the constant articles about why it hasn't been made and whatnot, is enough to tell me that there is in fact demand for this game.

TimeSplitters games are all about the cheeky humour and bizarre scenarios and locations... the plots have always been complex and rather silly. That's the point! That's what makes them fun and interesting.

One word... Kickstarter.

"We pitched it to a lot of publishers, and from each of them we got the same two responses. Firstly, they would ask what happened with Haze. We were the company that made a series of graphical based shooters with very little gameplay and then we had released Haze, which was even badly received. This worried them, as well as the 4 hour intro into the game........zzzzzzzzzzzzz parp," revealed Hilton

We would of had the 'TS HD Collection' & 'TS4' by now but the Xbox Fans & their Xbox loving gaming sites killed off 'FRD' :-/ (because 'HAZE' was PS3 only it got even more slagged off that it should of done at the time & that killed off 'FRD' in the end) Shame that.

Oh come on. How to solve the Timesplitters problem is easy. release the game in episodic format over XBLA and PSN. each episode focuses on a different character.

The marketing for each can then focus on each one but the over arching plot isn't properly reavealved till the end. devlopemtn costs are cut because you don't have to worry about boxed retail and the fans finally get what they want.

Do it Crytek you know it makes sense.

Why have they got very little gameplay?

Haze turned out bad because they were grappling with the technology of the ps3.
If they did a timesplitters with a team fortress inspired mode then they would smash it, If you asked gamers now what they thought the hottest IP that Crytech own is, i think you'd get some really strong answers, it has strong brand loyalty.
Surely, this is the time to explore IP, Consoles have reached a great installed base, technology is a little static, Haze is proof that launching with a new age of consoles with the most advanced tech you can muster isnt the smartest business move.

Crytech if you cant think how to make money out of the timesplitters IP , without endless facebook campaigns and articles on gaming sites then i (almost) give up,its a brilliant IP , i cant see the Uncharted card game working but i can envisage a timesplitters card game on tablets /vita/Wii u with those cheeky monkey faces popping up .

OK so how about this, perhaps even as something of a loss leader if you dont think (doh) its going to sell , do a timesplltters 2 HD with a little remix mode for the Vita/wii u/Ps3/PC/360 and have a little dabble with the dev kits fot the new consoles
And another thing if your not going to do Timesplitters why the hell did you buy Free Radical, Perhaps Disney should just do Indiana Jones and ignore star wars, cmon you bleedin donkeys, get on with it
Hey its Martin A , not Martina by the way, cheers

Riiiiggghhhhttttt! You know maybe if they'd gone multiplat they'd have received enough sales to keep themselves going, and then again if they'd actually made a good game out of Haze that might have saved them as well. Remember that the Timesplitters franchise was available on Xbox 1 as well so they all knew how good these games and Free Radical were.

Going exclusive on PS3, which at the time was just finding its feet, which also had an exclusive FPS that Sony was pushing (Resistance) that was infinitely better than Haze was the reason that they failed. Not MS or , as you say, biased websites.

I signed that a while back and it's clear from that petition that the series is sadly over. They needed 300k signatures to make it happen, and it's still only on 67k like a month later.

It's not an HD collection people want is it? It's Timesplitters 4. You don't know how to sell this? Seriously? It's a first person shooter with more guns and awsome than all its competitors. Those marketing people need a better understanding of how games are made. Nintendo should have bought Free Radical. Them we'd have Timesplitters 4 as a launch title for the Wii U with playable Nintendo characters and stages.
