I really don't see the point. Considering the decline in sales of the Wii and the fact that the WiiU is currently releasing around the world, is anyone actually going to buy this?

Reggie was talking about a few untapped markets that still have potential apparently. Maybe that is what they're for. But even Nintendo said they have no Wii games in development so they have pretty much abandoned the system. But they still want to sell it. Seems odd to me.

Sounds like a great way to confuse parents buying kids stuff for Christmas.

Wait, have people even been buying the Wii for the past year (+)? This seems bizarre considering Nintendo seemed to have pretty much given up on it.

A strange rumour indeed... can they even make it smaller? How would it take discs if they did?

I guess since Wii stuff works on Wii U, and given the rich back catalogue, they could do a whole load of budget re-releases.

SONY released the PS2 in Brazil as recent as November 18, 2009, so there is a market for Wii Wee in poorer countries. There will also be people in the main territories that will now impulse buy for cheapy gifts, as a 2nd/3rd gaming system or to simply hack for emulators.

Why waste money on a redesign? Its time has passed.

so a £79.99 - £99.99 smaller wii in time for xmas? sounds like it could help push the wii over its 100m barrier as at that price it moves it into a whole new budget market.

And yet Brazil's economy is better than that of the UK's, how weird is that?

It's not really surprising when Brazil's population is about three times ours, so each person has about a third as much money as in the UK, on average.

This does seem like a great way to confuse people, and the Wii U is about £80 or less a lot of the time anyway, when you factor in the price of a wiimote + and nunchuk, that's about £40 for the console. Seems silly to me, when they've struggled to differentiate consoles in the past.

Or, maybe Nintendo don't want people to buy the WiiU, so they can admit failiure and move onto other projects.
Or maybe the whole point of this Mini Wii is to say "Ha! We've made the Wii smaller, now we can add the Gamecube part onto it."

I thought the wii cost that much anyway. If they made it £50 i could see a few people picking one up. then again you can buy a first gen wii with GC compatibility for £50 second hand anyway.
