Wii U: Multiple retailers report sell-out ahead of launch

Postby Drusus » 23 Nov 2012, 19:10

Oh no, I must rush out and panic, fret, generally go crazy shouting at people about the Wii U, it's just so limited. Apart from at those places that have extra stock, a few just in stock in the back room...

a few pallets.

Wii U: Multiple retailers report sell-out ahead of launch

Nintendo are notorious for allocating very limited stock for retailers, so this is no surprise.

Maybe they've understocked everywhere to make the console look more in demand than it actually is. The truth is, the interest in this console has not been particularly great, so i think its a good strategy by Nintendo to understock. I personally will not be drawn in by this 'hype'.

We had all of these reports before the launch here too, yet loads of places had stock over the launch weekend. The places that eventually sold out by Tuesday/Wednesday near me have already been restocked now too.
I'm sure that if you haven't preordered but still want one enough you'll be able to find one at launch. Wouldn't surprise me if Tesco and Asda are swimming in them to be honest, and even if you can't be arsed to look further than your closest town centre store I'm sure they'll be restocked in a few days anyway.

It doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as the Wii launch. I dunno if that's because there's less demand or just loads more stock.
Just in case this place goes down suddenly, bookmark...

30K? Well no wonder its "sold out"!

Sounds like anti competitive market restriction if you ask me!

I thought one US retailer had 500k units? That's over ten times what the UK gets!

Funny you should say that, Charlie boy but she bought this purse type thing from a shop called 'Juicy Couture' which is a bit too bling for my liking.
Or chav like.
Or both.
And Ug boots too.
The f**king tramp.
I hate ugly people who wear Ug boots and carry distasteful purses.

"A number of unnamed retailers told MCV that their launch allocation of the new console has been completely taken by pre-orders one week ahead of the Wii U release date of November 30 in Europe."

Why do these stories always centre around unnamed retailers or sources? I'd see the point if they were blowing the whistle but not talking about stock shortages, the fact no one is willing to put their name to this means it is more than likely Nintendo spin or the retail sector trying to drum up interest by creating false demand.

Yep,but if retailers announce they're outta stock, potential customers won't visit their shop/site. Rbt,trade her in for an older model!

Complete rubbish considering that today ZAVVI added a free game to EVERY basic WII U console, 249.99 gets you the console plus a choice of about 10 of the launch games, batman is one of them, so is the new sonic driving game.

Also SHOPTO have e-mailed me twice today telling me that i will still get one on the day of launch and GAME have also said the same thing once per day every damn day.

If the UK gets a low number shipment and they dont actually sell out its not going to be a great start is it? Although having units in shops for impulse and second day day sales after seeing one play round a friends etc etc is always cool.

I guess we will all find out next week.

The important thing to remember is that the THQ tablet artist game pack thing was number 1 on Amazon for a while today, at a bargain 4.99 it has everything a young artist needs........... HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Oh wait, i just bought one...........Whoops.
