GTA: Vice City digital sales blocked due to licensing issue

Postby Cogglesz » 16 Nov 2012, 12:11

I recon there should be some laws to protect these old games, it was obviously okay for them to use the song when they first released the game, i don't get why its a problem now, is it because they just want more money since he's dead? its been sitting on the steam store for years and noones ever questioned it, i'd see the point if it were a re-release on a new platform but its not.

What about Billie Jean? That was on there too.

Thank god I bought it already on Steam, I still haven't played this game, missed it on PS2 as I went straight from GTA3 to San Andreas.

I don't think they can remove it as it's always played right at the start of the game (when you leave Rosenburg's office) when they announce on the radio that the bridges are closed due to weather.

After his death, different people bought different parts of his estate, so it's very likely one person bought the rights to "Billie Jean" and someone else bought the rights to this song.

Downloading games is for numpties, nothing beats having them on disc. I still have my PS2, with all the GTA games. I was just born with too much common sense...

was also thinking the same, but its the first song your hear when you get in a car/Taxi.

Not fussed about having it on PS3, unless its also Vita compatible, then I would get it.

I absolutely agree, but I'm having trouble finding the PS2 disc slot on my Android smartphone. Any advice?

Why do you think that downloading a game and having it on disc are mutually exclusive? Steam allows you to create backups of your games, including onto CD/DVD/BR. I have all my Steam games stored locally on an external harddrive. Having the ability to store a thousand games on a single harddrive sure beats having a thousand DVDs cluttering up the place.

Note: I do not own 1,000 games. Just exaggerating to make a point!

Ha ha. Also this. I forgot to mention that I haven't actually owned an optical drive for about 5 years now. Windows on my PC was downloaded and installed using a bootable USB stick. Games are downloaded through Steam and backed up onto a harddrive. Optical discs are obsolete technology.

No, optical discs are not obsolete. Once we start getting games, movies and music albums on a different format and the western hemisphere's broadband infrastructure is capable of HD streaming or everyone then they will be but we are nowhere near that point.
On topic, what is it with the Jackson Estate? They have been trying to screw money out of everyone since he died. Pure greed. Dump the song out of the game so they get nothing from the sales.
