Scribblenaut Dev: no achievements for Wii U

Postby billysastard » 12 Nov 2012, 06:51

i really hope that mandatory achievements never come to wii u, all they do is provide a substitute for what used to be unlockables in games to be sold as dlc by greedy publishers.

I don't want an achievement system to come to the wii u I think achievements can distract a player too much and make them play how a dev wants you to play instead of how you want to play

When done right Achievements/Trophies are a good thing like finish the game but ones like finish under a certain time or do this level backwards while reciting call me maybe in a ducksuit ruin it. All down to using it to show your features

My last achievement/trophy was for beating a friends recommendation on autolog, how in any way at all is that a substitute for an unlockable in an older game. Answer - it isn't, it wouldn't have even been in an older game.

Nintendo have dropped the ball on this. Trophies are a huge deal breaker now for alot of gamers.
Not having them wont stop me buying a console, but if a 3rd party game doesn't have trophies on one platform but does on another, then I'm buying on the one that has.

Boo hoo. Apart from covering up lack of singleplayer (in general) in most games, achievements are for those who think they are good at games. Of course, this is not this is not the case at all, rather it shows them having way too much time on their hands. X-Box Live threw up loads of them, where they would claim they were better than you due to their massive GS, yet they couldn't actually beat you in the game. Watch their egos deflate and their rage go wild

A deal breaker for me is if the game is actually good or not

I stopped caring about achievements ages ago. I don't have the time for them, and prefer to play games for fun rather than obsessively trying to pull off some near-impossible task for a pitiful 20 points.

Hey, this generalisation lark seems easy.

Nintendo fans - We hate everything that Nintendo didn't think of or use first. They invented gaming and everything they do is brilliant, innovative and for the good of the universe. If they did decide to use an achievement system it would be better than all the others. Free plush toys for everybody!*

*Plush toys include a postage charge of £156/$240. Only those that spend 8 million star points are eligible.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm off for a barbecue and to watch some kangaroo boxing.

I'm just waiting for ZOMBIE U to be completely average when the reviews are all added up.

Glad i decided against pre-ordering this console, things like party chat across all games and achievements are as standard to me as the online console store. Once again Nintendo miss out on what is mainstream and accepted in this generation, theres no reason why it could not have been done.

Theres nothing cool or hard core about hating achievements, for some reason its now very vogue to slate them even though they are completely optional.

Sometimes i get the feeling that Nintendo want to be that annoying douche that only plays jap rpg imports on consoles only 6 people have heard of or specialises in beat em ups and absolutely nothing else, everyone knows a person like that in their friends circle.

By the way im a bit of a Nintendo fanboy but with each passing year they are annoying me more and more and more, right now the WII U to me feels meh.

ok, so you found one example (of many no doubt) but the fact remains that even in forza 1 many of the things you now get achievements for would have simply unlocked cars or tracks that you now have to pay extra for as dlc, surely the best example of this is found in fighting games where now costumes and stages are sold as dlc and instead of simply unlocking them by completing certain goals you now get a bigger e-penis to show your friends and if you want the rest of the game you have to pay extra for it.

I agree that paying for extra costumes in a fighter is a p**s take because it used to be an unlockable. But that's the fault of gullible people buying the DLC, nothing to do with an achievement system. Most games add more achievements not lock you out of achieving a goal in the main game. Say i'm looking for the hidden packages on GTA, i wouldn't get to 99 then get a message saying to get 100 i'll need the DLC for new shoes and a motorbike to reach it.

The things you're listing are a problem inherent to DLC, achievements are completely separate to that. And the Wii U is already guaranteed to have DLC, so not having an achievement system won't do anything there. Things that were included on disc will still be charged for, Nintendo themselves included now.
Here's a lockpick, now jog on.
