Braben seeks £1.25m to build new Elite

Postby Gambini » 06 Nov 2012, 11:06

Hmmm... it's one thing asking for £50,000 and then smashing all records to raise £2.5mil.... but asking for £1.25mil upfront seems "excessive", particularly when you're "a very well established game development company with 235 people in the UK and Canada, with its own technology and tools and a great team of game developers"

Awesome!!!

Better get in there quick though before Notch's new 10xCCC28 (or whatever it's called) comes out.

Count me in. They've got over £100k already, you can back for £20 which gets you a free digital copy of the game - as long as the project completes.
I'm willing to risk it as I put so many hours in to the original Elite, it's worth a punt on the game and David Braben.

Coming from Braben - I'm optimisitc
Coming from the team whos most recent works are Kinectimals and Kinect Disneyland Adventures - Somewhat less so (although to be fair some of their older titles are better)

At the moment I would have to say I'm more excited about Star Citizen but chances are I'll end up backing both. I'm just a sucker for a good space sim :D .

I haven't checked out Kickstarter yet, but this is definitely the most interesting project that CVG has reported so far, so it could be the first I'm going to support.

My ideal Kickstarter project would probably be a new 4K console by Sega, and ultraHD remakes of Sonic 2, Revenge of Shinobi and so on...

It has to be one of the worst pitches for money I've seen on Kickstarter. Theres scant details about anything of substance there. While I'd happily help to fund a new versionof Elite, I see no point in spending money on "test-marketing the concept" and rasing funds when they admit they arent really sure what theyre going to make yet.

£1.25mil upfront is nothing. Star Citizen wanted $2 mil, they have about $3 mil at the moment with just under 2 weeks to go. Project Eternity wanted $1.1 mil and got about 3mil.
Anything less for such a massive game and it would be a joke. Big projects need big bucks, with £50k you wouldn't even get an iPhone game.
