Assassin's Creed 3 review scores arrive early - Initial roun

Cropped draw distances. Oh dear those screen shots might have actually be representative of the final game. Looks certainly like i'll be waiting for PC version and perhaps the stark difference in graphics between console and PC version was the reason they delayed it.

What does "draw distance" actually mean? I see it mentioned alot but i dunno what it means.
does it mean the depth of the image?

It's where objects pop into view the closer you move towards them.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Imagine you're looking down a long street; depending on your machine you'll either be able to see right to the end of the street and the mountains beyond, or there'll be a mysterious fog at some point down the street that'll preclude you from seen anything past that.

So, with double the RAM and a beefier GPU, will the Wii U version have a greater draw distance than PS3/360?

It basically means the distance that the world is displayed on the screen. A good draw distance would be a long way. Far enough for you not to be able to see buildings and whatnot appearing on the screen. A bad draw distance is a short one, where you can see buildings popping up in front of you unrealistically. This is usually most apparent when you are travelling faster than the console can create the world.
A slightly less severe version of this is "texture pop-in" where the texture of items in the distance are of a much lower resolution. This is done to reduce the amount of memory in use and helps the game run smoother. Unfortunately this can have the side effect of textures being very low resolution at too close a range and makes the higher resolution textures suddenly "pop in" too late so you can see them appear. The low res textures should only be displayed far enough away for you not to be able to tell the difference and should smoothly transition to the high res texture when you get closer. I'm hoping this is all that AC3 has as its a lot less intrusive than having whole chunks of the world suddenly appearing in front of you. I also hope they've managed to fix it with the day one patch they'll be releasing.

In theory yes. In practice, we won't know unless we get a like for like comparison. It'll also depend on how/if the game is optimised for the Wii U.

More than likely, remains to be seen how much of a step up it will be. The developers have learnt to cope this gen with the lack of RAM and some games look brilliant. Dishonored has amazing graphics on PS3 at least, great draw distance too.

It is getting ridiculous the way publishers are holding back reviews until the day of release.
