Facebook and Twitter removed from Xbox 360 dash

Postby lordirongut » 19 Oct 2012, 10:15

So in a bid to get people to use IE, they're intentionally making other services more difficult to use?

Oh, Microsoft...

They are not more difficult to use.
Go into Internet Explorer and type facebook.com or twitter.com and then pin them. So you can access them from your pins section on the dashboard in the future.

It makes sense really when the site versions offer more options. Why continue supporting an app that isn't really needed anymore.

Current way to access Facebook and Twitter:

1: Go to the Apps menu
2: Press A

New way:

1: Go to the search menu or Apps menu
2: Press A to open Internet Explorer
3a: Type in the Web Address
3b: Press A over the 'Pin'

It takes more steps to reach them that way. And even if the site versions do offer more options, why not leave the dedicated Xbox versions available for download? The ones with quicker access...

Didn't have the apps on the 360 in the first place so they wont be missed. if i want to access Twitter i use my laptop or my tablet. Having it on the 360 as well just means more dashboard clutter

You only do that once and in the future it would be.
1: go to pin menu
2: click pin.

To download the apps for the first time would take just as long. I'm not trying to say one way is better. Just saying that having the apps removed are no big of a deal as the alternative is just as easy.

Time to remove those credit cards from LIVE maybe.

When Sony removed a feature used by a handful of people from the PS3 hackers took the PSN down.

The apps may have made it easy to access them but they were clunky to use. I just use my iPhone or iPad, much simpler and quicker

Let me think about that for 1 sec... a hacker that probably has more tech than the normal guy knows what to do with, would be upset that 2 apps (that were appauling compared to the web version) are removed and an alternative option is readily available (plus these can be used on alternative laptops, phones etc that they already own) - compared to the removal of the install linux option on a PS3.

No it doesn't. You can either pin Facebook/Twitter, or have it as a favourite when you load IE. Not really any slower and you get the real Facebook/Twitter instead of apps that haven't been updated in at least 2 years. You can't go to links posted in tweets with the Twitter app so it's better to use IE, surely.

Sounds like they are just trying to boost IE and probably bing usage figures to me!

i think social media is crap anyway, so no skin of my nose, but seems an odd move.

It could also be a similar move like Apple did to remove competitors apps (Google from iOS 6) moving forward. Its short sighted in the long run, the consumer just gets frustrated and either finds a way to do it or leave the product for something else.

I haven't either Shells. They must be holding back on some of the Midlands area because we're already lucky enough.
