007 Legends review: Fundamentally mishandles the franchise

Postby paddyrx8 » 17 Oct 2012, 16:57

Could have written this review myself without having seen a single screenshot. After playing the terrible Goldeneye remake I knew Legends would be pants, but it actually sounds worse. I'm getting out ny N64 tonight to play the best James bond game ever, Goldeneye. If the same team that made Goldeneye came together and made Legends then it would be a must buy, but not to be.

Every review I've seen says the same thing... it doesn't capture the essence of Bond whatsoever.

I suppose a proper Bond game would be more akin to Splinter Cell.

I feel a little bad too for the Eurocom folks, but after being lured by moderately positive reviews to buy the awful GoldenEye Reloaded I swore not to buy another Bond game from them. Why can't Activision give the rights back to a publisher that actually cares?

The original Goldeneye is still the best Bond game ever. MGS3 was a nice pastiche as well, in a completely different direction. Unfortunately senseless shooting gets the best of most high-profile series these days - just look at RE6.

I'm glad this game got ripped into for just being a cash in. On paper, this sounds like a brillant game for Bond fans but what activision has churned out is quite the opposite of what Bond fans want. For example, Goldfinger is a 60's Connery classic, not Daniel Craig using smart phones in a military base equipped with tanks and fighter jets!

Sell the Bond license back to EA please. At least they stuck to the original setting when they made From Russia From Love.

I know we can't slate Activision here anymore because only kids do that... but this is nothing but greed.
EA Sports: It's in the game(for a price).

You could have just used my review by the sounds of it.

At least the goldeneye remake still had a story.

I don't know why they just didn't continue with the bloodstone engine and Bizarre. you know, the only James Bond game on the ps3/xbox that didn't copy COD4.

When the leaked animations for a unreleased bond game came out everybody loved it, so what does activision do? annoy us all by creating this rubbish. I feel sorry for the developers, its probably not their fault that they are being pushed to churn out this disaster... Unfortunately they will be first in the firing line for inevitable lay-offs.

Wow. Do you know what wasn't actually a terrible bond game. Blood stone. It wasn't perfect but it at least made every attempt to figure out what it feels like to be bond. This just sounds like a reskinned CoD.

Dunno, I really enjoyed Goldeneye Reloaded, having just finished a second playthrough. Everyone seems to forget in the original N64 Goldeneye there wasnt much stealth either, but no one critises that game for it because it was fun to play, just like Reloaded. The reviewer should also have known the reason you play as Daniel Craig is because he is the current Bond and is licensed. A pretty fundamental flaw to admit why he didnt know this when reviewing a game directly based on the source material. I enjoyed Reloaded and this seems exactly the same, so I'm sure Ill enjoy this too. Besides, its got a bad score, so I know what that means - I'll like it (most of my favourite games seem to always get slated by reviewers for no apparent reason except an obvious bias, so my general rule of thumb is if they don't like it, it must be f***ing awesome!).

I was slightly looking forward to this with it being the 50th anniversery of Bond and ive been enjoying the 007 movie channel on Sky but deep down i always knew it was going to be a 6/10 sort of game but some of the reviews have been even worse than expected....not good. It seems they just made a COD clone but with a 007 theme which is just lazy really. Oh well, even after 15 years Goldeneye remains the king!

Haven't played a Bond game since Goldeneye, looks as though I made the right choice. All heil Goldeneye!
It's just a ride.
