Forget me not: The 10 most underrated games this generation

Postby runadumb » 16 Oct 2012, 16:38

Glad to see this article isn't posted over 10 separate pages. Well done CVG :D

I am a (not so) secret Alpha Protocol fan. I would slag its mechanics and sloppy execution all day long but, in the end, I had a fun time with it. It could have been an utterly stellar game though which is a shame.

Overlooked.

Forget me not: The 10 most underrated games this generation

I loved Binary Domain, it was definately one under the radar! I played it at Eurogamer last year as it was put in a corner somewhere I thought what's this only to be pleasantly surprised and purchased it when it was released. Decent co-op and voice control. If anyone hasn't played it I'd defo give it a go!

What? Gears of whatnow? Did you make it perchance?

Anywho, games that get 70% or above are classed as good, surely?

I'm surprised resident evil 6 wasn't on the list though...oh no he didn't
Some say he's half man, half fish. Others say its more of a 70/30 split. Whatever the percentage, he's one fishy bastard.

Deadly premonition Overlooked??? I thought it was touted as a cult classic its hardly been overlooked. Like most of the games on this list. Pandoras tower aside. They weren't overlooked they just weren't that good.

Where's the like's of The Last Story, Singularity and shatered memories. Great games that got decent enough review scores that no bugger played.

Enslaved wasn't underrated it was just under the radar and didn't sell as much as it deserved.

i'd at to the list of "underrated" game is Metro 2033. 77/100 xbox metacrtic score and appart from voice acting and some of the sounds... it's easily the best straight up Shooter(i.e no ability unlocks) this generation. EASILY.

I would have added Enslaved but it is on Metacritic at 82 so therefore I nominate Nier. Ok the graphics aren't great and most of the enemies are a mess, but I enjoyed the storyline, the characters were interesting, the boy wasn't an annoying tw@t like most JRPGs and the music was amazing. Best £10 I spent on a Xbox 360 game (that wasn't 2nd hand anyhow)

Alpha protocol is one of my highlights this gen and a game ill definitely be purchasing again at some point.

Binary Domain was a really fun title with a story that was actually a lot better than most games churn out nowadays.

I didn't think Deadly Premonition was released on pa3 outside of Japan? Might have to see if I can find a copy if I'm wrong.

Don't bother Dave.

Just been announced that Deadly Premonition:The Director’s Cut will be released on PS3 next year.

Contains new features, HD graphics, an updated control system, and a brand new scenario from the game’s director, Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, and DLC in addition to the main campaign.

So wait til next year.

Anyways +1 to CVG for not putting this feature across 10 or so pages.

Alpha Protocol is absolutely great, if you see it pick it up :-)

Considering how well received Batman AA was I'm genuinely surprised at how few gamers dug Captain America. It is Batman AA Lite but a little gem of a game.

Alice the Madness Returns equally far from perfect but a nice little game. Surprised at how much I struggled with the original game though, I remember clearing it with hardly any difficulty on the PC, yet to finish it on the PS3.

EDIT Not sure how underrated it would be considered but 3D Dot Heroes should have sold more. A challenging and humerous Zelda clone.

Childhood pictures redeem, clean and so serene
See myself without ruining lines

I recognise dim traces of creation

An example of how polarising Deadly Premonition is -

IGN US gave it 2

IGN UK gave it 7.5

Personally i absolutely adore it but thats just me...
