Dead or Alive 5 review: Slick, brutal and bouncy - but unamb

Postby Squall5005 » 25 Sep 2012, 12:15

Not too bad. I haven't played a DOA game since number two.
I preordered the collectors edition a while back for £15. Not a game i would usually preorder but Amazon mis-priced it for £35 and I had a spare £20 Amazon voucher I earned from completing online surveys. I can't complain really. But i don't think I'll be playing it for a while yet. Not when I've just got LBP and Borderlands.

Think I'll get this when it's a bit cheaper, haven't played this since the original Xbox versions.

Well having been playing DOA Ultimate today, I'm not so sure I need DOA5. As I've no desire to play games online and being as there is clearly little very difference from previous DOA games I'll keep my money in my pocket.

This is sadly the kind of lazy and jaded review i was expecting beforehand ...

"It isn't hardcore, it isn't even a big step up from DOA4."

Yes it is a big step up given the amount of changes to it .

SF4 changed what from the original formula ?

Focus Attacks
Ultras
Different combo system/mechanics
Easy Inputs
4 New Characters with unique playstyles

Doa5 brings what to its formula ?
Power Blow
Different combo system/mechanics
Easy inputs
5 new and unique playstyles

So why are people going "meh its the same" when they conveniently want to put down a fighting game is beyond me . It's supposed , as a franchise's sequel , with already a fanbase , to be the same yet bringing something new .

They did .

And the changes are even apparent to non DOA fans like myself that had issues and grips with some of the game . As usual you guys are just going with the flow , praising whatever is the hype flavor while rating down over silly nitpicks the less popular titles .

Sounds like Tecmo done exactly what they set out to do, create "fighting entertainment". Great stuff, day 1 for me! :)

Someone's a bit butthurt?

Sorry, but as much as I like the DOA series, it hasn't evolved enough, or brought enough to the table to make this a day one purchase. It''s not worth much more than £20-25 tops.
