Review: The new PS3

It's slimmer, quieter and can house more memory - but is it worth an upgrade?

Here's a true story. My house was broken into a few months back and the majority of my electronic stuff was stolen. Xbox 360 - gone. Wii - gone. iPad, DS, digital camera, laptop - all nicked. The only thing that remained was my chunky launch day PS3, which was in its stand upside-down.... read more

If you can find me a 500gb for £185 I'll buy, however I'm guessing it's a typo and you actually meant the 12gb version

Really. I'm hlding onto my launch day model for dear life. Every slim version has been a step down from my beloved 60gb.

So not only does the "super slim" looks and feels cheaper, which is the case with most of their product, but it doesn't even come with a HDMI cable.

If Nintendo can bundle a HDMI cable with the Wii U then why can't Sony.

"Fans are near-silent" -- Oh well, DAY 1 buy for me then.
My Ps3 slim gets loader after only 20 minutes[the Fan kicks in] then 1 hour in it is worse[it is not that bad like say the dreadful original XBox360's Fan. That was 100 Billion times worse than the original Fat PS3 CVG, i know how much you think the Xbox360 is perfect, lol] It just gets on my nerves a bit while watching a Blu-ray[on the silent not loud bits in films] or downloading stuff off PSN. I will take that any day over a bit of disc opening & spinning[a bit] noise sometimes -&- the burglar left the Ps3? What a surprise the burglar was an Xbox lover --NOT-- lol

Clean the front right hand ports (near the bottom) and clean the rear vents and the side gaps

Mine builds up dust and gets loud, a quick 5 minute clean and it's all good

If the only thing he left was a ps3 then....it must have been you! I knew you loved xbox and wii more.
Some say he's half man, half fish. Others say its more of a 70/30 split. Whatever the percentage, he's one fishy bastard.

had my ps3 since not long after launch, the fans got ridiculously noisey!

few days ago, i took the ps3 apart and cleaned / hoovered the mighty amount of dust that was inside it, the fans have been almost silent since then and still are now.

don't buy a new ps3 because of new fans, just clean it inside. and keep your house clean.

I have a day one chunky 60gb console and 2 slimline consoles, dont think i need more than 3 of the same machine.... lol

Plus honestly this one looks like a knock off console from asia that plays old snes games, you knw.... An Argos tv game macine.

This piece of plastic rubbish should be the super duper budget model at like 129.99 or less.

I bought a 60GIG original backward compatible Ps3 about 2 years ago (pre-owned) that died the yellow light of death after 6 weeks, resulting in my getting a slim. But my old housemate has had his original 60GIG since launch day & it's still going strong (he plays it a lot also). The bastard just upgraded the HDD to 1 Terabyte. He's the only person I know that hasn't had an issue with the fat original model.
