Id Software ceases mobile game operations

Postby MisterBedo » 03 Aug 2012, 11:43

M'eh, never thought that a touch screen was the best way to play an FPS anyway.

A big PC with lots of RAM and a graphics card with exhaust pipes. That's what you want

This sounds like quite a brave decision for Id Software to be making considering that every other games company going seems to be spouting off about the virtues of mobile and social gaming. I hope this decision works out for them.

FPS as a genre is ill-suited to touch-screen devices. I've bought Doom classic and Gameloft's "Modern Combat 3" for €0,79 apiece for the ipad, but that was definitely in the upper range of what I was willing to pay.

Hasn't anyone told them? 69p games are the future! AAA games are dying!

But I thought mobile games are the only way forward, that it's consoles and PC gaming that is dying? :P
EA Sports: It's in the game(for a price).

Id should have made a game that's actually playable on a touch-screen device - like Epic's Infinity Blade. But it seems FPS games is all Id can do, and they don't translate well to mobile platforms at all, with the exception of the Vita, which Id has ignored...
