Those old Sony adverts were brilliant!

I remember seeing them and thinking that I need to get a Playstation!

They have dropped the ball this Gen, big time, and its probably one of the main reasons (along with the price) that they find themselves in 3rd place in the War.

They have redeemed themselves with the Michael advert, so maybe moving forward they'll get back to their roots.

Oh and 2 points. I really dont like the Kevin Butler ads and you guys are defo biased towards Sony CVG, damn you, damn you all to Hell  .

It's easy to forget just how good some of the original Playstation adverts were, the Double Life advert could still be used today.

Some of the original adverts didn't make me want a PlayStation.

They made me want magic mushrooms and a bottle of absinthe.

Wipeout made me want mushrooms and absinthe.

I got some and it was the best audio visual experience Ive ever had, though I did have to lock myself in my room for about 6 weeks after it.

What happened this gen then because SONY hardly do any tv advertising now. I bought a Vita about 2 months ago and most of my mates had not even the faintest clue what i was talking about when i said i'd bought one.

I'm slightly annoyed you didnt show the original PS 1 adverts which were anti playstation group SAPS.

Society Against Playstation.....

Dont play playstation..... Play STICK!

Awesome adverts in a 1950's retro house with a guy who looked like he was from the FBI.

Sony's advertising used to be amazing and the current American adverts are still great, its just the rubbish Euro advertising that lets everything down.

Kevin Butler is quite simply fantastic, the advert where he came back and fired the flame arrow made me laugh so much i nearly died..... How come thats not on your video player, its the best one.

............. For Michael.

"... and conquered worlds"

favourite playstation advert so far.

The Michael one was good, but I think they made a mistake using a name, they should've used "you" and talked to the viewer instead.

But the banned Xbox ad with the baby being fired out from the woman, and then aging while flying through the air ... Playstation should do ads like this.

Am I the only one who liked the baby commercial?
Some cheerleader at school or hot secretary at the office may not think you are cool but let’s be real, those very same bitches don’t love bacon and still use IE to explore the web.

There are over 100 megadrive games.......

They get faster, they get harder!

What are you going to do to keep up?

Now that was an advert.

Sega is the company that pioneered cool/edgy console advertising. From the Mega Drive Wiki-page:

"Sega's advertising continued to position the Genesis as the "cooler" console, and at one point in its campaign, it used the term "Blast Processing" (the origin of which is an obscure programming trick on the console's graphics hardware to suggest that the processing capabilities of the Genesis were far greater than those of the SNES). A Sony focus group found that teenage boys would not admit to owning a Super NES rather than a Genesis."

Sony seems to have studied Sega's marketing and taken quite a few cues from Sega's playbook. They still innovated, by taking things in a more surreal and weird direction, especially with the "Third Place" ads. But my favourite ad remains "Genesis does what Nintendon't", which perfectly encapsulated the attitude of Sega (and Sonic) in the '90s.
