One thing's for sure: marines get ripped open...

What's six feet tall, smells strongly of Wispa Golds, and goes "aaaargh"? This writer, succumbing to the many scares of the Aliens: Colonial Marines press junket. Scare number one kicked in before we even entered the demo room: £4.95 for a Coke! In space no one can hear you get ripped off. It's ripping of a different kind that triggers scare number two, this time in the murky corridors of the USS Sulaco.... read more

Aliens: Colonial Marines preview: Is this the Wii U's Left 4

Postby MrPirtniw » 28 Jul 2012, 13:23

Sounds like another game that skips past the whole horror aspect. Less of the atmosphere and more shooting, eh? Bit of a shame. Still, should be good fun in multiplayer but I'm slightly less pumped after reading that.

I'll be getting it though... If only to wash out the awful stench of Resurrection.

Hmmm.

Sounds like it sits precariously between 'missing the point' and 'getting it right'.

OK two things:

1: I'm FINE with this being Aliens: The Game. I really am. Chuck a few scares in with the pulse rifle carnage and I'll be a happy little human, I don't need horror to be the focus in this game.

2: Are.... are those Wii U screenshots? Because if so, WOAH. They are FIT.

The devs have said Cameron's Aliens is their source of inspiration, and as long as they stay true to the spirit and atmosphere of that film, the game should turn out fine. There have been some Aliens games in the past that were very action-oriented and that lacked some of the nuances of horror, dialogue and exploration of the film:

(which rocked)

(haven't played this one, but it looks interesting)

I was going to ask the same thing about the origin of those screen shots.

If they are Wii U shots consider me amazed, look at the detail on that alien in the first screenshot, it amazing! Very impressive if it is the Wii u and maybe proves its a lot more powerful than Nintendo have been letting on....

Although it's an Ngamer article, the nice-looking screenshots could be from another format than the WiiU - the PC being the usual suspect of preview articles.

Well Randy did say this version would look the best. Excepting PC, I assume.

I agree sadly. I am a little worried when the dev mentioned that theres people who haven't seen the films, that may be true but how many of those people that haven't seen the films be gamers who's whole reason for looking forward to this game is because they love the franchise?. The only people that would be interested in this game and not watched the films would be younger people who can't get into films made before their time?.
I don't know what I am getting at really I just hope the game is good with believeable charracters with mature dialogue thats all, I don't want space marines enjoying the safari wild game hunt , whooping and giving out high fives at every kill.
I would also like quieter parts that use that time to create tension and atmosphere.

The only difference between this and other versions of the game is you'll have to spend half your time looking at the control pad, for me that doesn't add anything to the game it just screams eye strain.
