Valve examines the value of feeding clues to the community

Postby Moribundman » 10 Jul 2012, 12:36

Looking at what they did with the ARG for the TF2 Pyromania update shows that they have an excellent relationship with their fanbase and can leak the subtlest clues to get fans to tease details out and spread viral hype, and they listen while still innovating and surprising the customer.

I wish the once great Bioware were free to learn from this model too but I fear EA has its footie studs on their b*****ks.

I like that Valve do this. It's nice for them to drop hints .... So where's HL3 then?

Rocksteady are the best for this, the map of Arkham City hidden in Arkham Asylum was genius.I bet there's hints of a 3rd batman game hidden in City somewhere. Rockstar also generate a lot of hype, althoughthat's fair as they're the best developers out there (well joint with Naughty Dog.)
I wish CVG would stop giving Peter Molyneux publicity

It's a nice thought, but I can't help thinking it would've been found by now :(

Not neccessarily. That clue wasn't found for over a year after the game was released. With Arkham City being a much larger play area to hide the clue in it may be that it's still there, waiting to be found :D

This article makes me wonder if Valve haven't gone back into HL2 and added something to give clues about HL3. Right, I'm heading over to Steam and downloading it again!

As the previous guys said, maybe this is a hint that they added something into HL2, or one of the HL2 episodes? Makes you wonder :D

It's funny, maybe their talk of clues is a clue itself.

It'd be great if, over the next couple of days, someone finds something new in HL2 or Ep1/2.
