Hands-on with Platinum's pleasant surprise

With its ridiculous subtitle, madcap setting and fan-defying desertion of the series' stealthy roots, it's easy to groan about Metal Gear Rising Revengeance - but we *defy* anyone to care when you're slicing up a car finer than processed cat food in thrilling slow motion.... read more

Sounds fantastic, but I do hope when you're not in mad slasher mode the right stick can control the camera...

The E3 trailer was much better than the last one. I'd be glad to hear demo feedback from someone objective - neither blindly in love with Platinum Games nor openly hostile to MGR. I was extremely let down at first when the original Rising was cancelled but I'm slowly thawing at the idea now.

Sounds pretty fun, actually. If only Raiden wasn't in it.

I hope Raiden's not as depressing in this as he was in MGS4.

It looks average so don't kid yourself CVG lol It's not a real multi-format MGS game & never will be.

It's refreshing when someone does a different take on a long-running series and this is looking like a fine action game.

I'll still get it because it's metal gear and I don't mind there being action (Yeah I'll always be disappointed it wasn't a proper MGS but oh well) but Raiden had better fit in with his character in previous games. If PG throw all that away and have some crazy lunatic with a sword, that's when I start getting annoyed and other things like that. I'm not too bothered as long as it still looks like MGS character wise and perhaps story wise (That may be expecting too much though), they just better not throw everything away and have some guy that looks like Raiden, but in reality is nothing like him.

Saw the gameplay video on Gametrailers, have to say that it helped convince me more about the game, it looks great.

Gameplay looks sick.

Couldn't care less for MGS, the universe, story or the characters.

Buying this one purely on the gameplay.

It's not a real multi-format MGS game? Could that be because it's not an MGS game at all? And never was? And nobody ever thought it was? Except maybe you.

I found it dull, they are taking far too long and the idea feels old which is impressive for something that nobody else has done either

Isn't anyone else slightly concerned that Kojima's guys couldn't produce a game from this, but Platinum Games could? Is it more to do with the fact that this 'hack/slash' game represents Platinum Games more than it does Kojima?...

Thoughts? :?

They couldn't do it the way they had originally intended, vertical stealth, cutting anything, and story. So they gave it to platinum, allowed them to take their liberties with presentation and story to make it a "Platinum" Game.

Looks and sounds much better than it's initial reveal. Visuals are greatly improved as they no longer offend the eyes but it feels like platinum are struggling to find something that works.
