Fez: Our review of the year's most head-scratching download

A dimension-pushing platformer straight from the golden age of gaming

20 years and about a billion pixels since the 16-bit and what have plugged-in gamers been clamouring to get their hands on? A game that looks straight from the 90's, albeit idealized and with colours you need more than a hand to count. Retro is all the rage with smaller developers high on ambition and low on funds - look at recent indie smashes Super Meat Boy, VVVVVV, Cave Story and Spelunky - but this takes nostalgic hat-tips to a new level (or perhaps tears several levels away).... read more

Fez: Our review of the year's most head-scratching download

Postby slick loose » 13 Apr 2012, 17:50

I assumed the 360 was dead as I assumed there were no more amazing games to be released on the console, with Microsofts attention focusing more on the Kinnect.

Today I was proven wrong, first with Witcher 2 and now this. As a PS3 owner, I am rather envious...it's been a long time since that's happened!

I've just finished playing the demo. I don't think I've ever fallen in love with a game as quickly.

Not really. Some influence, sure, but Fez is quite different.

First Friday in . . . Well I can't remember actually, that i havent went straight to the pub after work!

I am currently sat on the couch, beer in hand and I'm currently at 81% downloaded.

The wait was worth it! I've hyped this game for years now and only have one thing to say. Vindicated :D

I've been convinced for days that a spam bot had taken over Stonecold's account but I was wrong.

It's clearly Phil Fish :P.

I'm a little jealous, not to the point where'd I'd rush out to buy a 360, nothing will make me do that at this point in time, but I reckon if Fez is as good as some say then Zynga or some unscrupulous developer will rip it off and stick it on the App Store.

Enjoy it Stonecold.

It's brilliant, truly brilliant. Yeh and Witcher 2 on Tuesday and then Trials Revolution on Wednesday! The best 6 days in gaming ever?
Genius behind Niptendo (TM pending)

I distrust patriotism; the reasonable man can find little in these days that is worth dying for. But dying against - there's enough iniquity in Europe to carry the most urbane or decadent into battle.

Not if you're only buying one out the three and you've got a feeling HMV will f**k you over like they have with the last two games you've wanted.

Feels slightly better letting that out.
