Mirror's Edge 2: 'People are ready,' says DICE

Postby KesMonkey » 10 Oct 2011, 10:09

Unless the sequel offers substantial improvements over the first, it too will be a commercial failure. I bought it for a tenner not too long after it's release, and ended up regretting it. Lots of potential, not yet realised.
I like cake.

Absolutely loved ME1, i hope they don't mess too much, the game gave us something a little quirky and different to play and experience, reaching a 'broader audience' has the effect of making it similar to everything else out there ie safe.

The 1st game was amazing I spent hours just beating time trials.

I really liked the first game, they just need to be more economical about the gun-play segments and introduce better environmental hazards. Faith definitely shouldn't be forced into using guns either.

You regretted buying it for a tenner?! Jeez..

It is a game brimming with potential, and the first run-out was pretty damn good. It just needs to be fleshed out.

I bought it for 3 quid new from game online. Some parts had me ready to snap the disc in half. I finished it to give it a fair shake but I only enjoyed small sections.

2m sales does not equal a cult following, not to me anyway, certainly not for a new IP either.

Shadows of the Damned, ICO, they have cult followings.

EA had unreasonable expectations for Mirrors Edge.

I loved the first game, not sure how they go about a sequel but I hope they don't turn it into a full on shooter, as far as story goes I think they should look at the film 'Crank', I could see a story like that working in Mirrors Edge.

It p**ses fans of the game off when I say this, but the game would've been better in 3rd person. All the acrobatics and stuff just suit a 3rd person perspective and Dice knows this, but they want to be clever and try and make it first person and it's to the detriment of the gameplay IMO.

 I want to slap you so hard reegee :P

I want a Mirrors Edge sequel so bad but I can't see it being any good :( because they will end up changing everything when nothing needs changing. If anything the gun play needs throwing out the window and please please stick to the same lush environments.

It winds fans of the game up so much when I say that

It should be 3rd person though! Like Prince of Persia or something.

I think that might defeat the purpose of a first person free running game.

As with sonar, the big problem with detection is interpreting the returning signals.

Exactly. You shouldn't make the perspective before the game. Once they had everything in place they should have realised that all these mechanics work much better in 3rd person. That's why Uncharted, Prince of Persia and Assassins Creed are 3rd person. It just works. In 1st person it just becomes a frustrating mess and becomes trial and error based gameplay IMO.

It wasn't a bad game but i just got the impression that it was someone trying to be clever rather than making a good game.

The only thing that really bugged me about the first was the overuse of the colour white. Jesus that game gave me so many headaches due to the glaring brightness... even after altering my TV's settings. Not everyone likes staring into the Sun.

I think you should get the f**k out of this thread Reegee before I get Crispy to start stalking you again.

1st it was Larry then you told me Quantum of Solace was an amazing game now you say Mirrors Edge in 3rd person. Next you will say FIFA is better than PES.

In all seriousness though Mirrors Edge wouldn't have even been anything fresh or all that good if it were in 3rd person.

God damn 3rd person fanboys

 It wouldn't have been fresh but it might have been good.

But that Crispy threat is enough for me to shut my damn mouth up.
