After a four year wait id Software's Rage is finally out in the wild for all to play (in the US anyway, as we have to wait until Friday). And as always, critics have been offering their verdicts on the ambitious post-apocalyptic shooter.... read more
At a glance, it looks like Rage is a solid shooter, but a little underwhelming. I have a feeling the high scores are a little influenced by hype. Will probably still buy it, but a twenty pound purchase only.
let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little f**ked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
As a Doom fanboy i feel i owe it to id to buy this but im put off by the RPG element to it and with no demo out ill probably end up renting it at some point rather than buying it. Now Rage is complete can you please hurry up with Doom 4 Mr Carmack?
Most reviews are from 6-8/10, so it's a solid shooter, but not worth £40. Might pick this up in a year when it's cheaper or they bundle in all the DLC or something.
Seems slightly disappointing that the game isn't actually particularly "big" and doesn't take very long to complete. At over 20gb and on 3 discs for Xbox 360 I was expecting around 20-25 hours for the single player, oh well.
I was looking forward to having a "Falloutish" game with decent gunplay, but it looks like this isn't quite what I wanted.
I think that the very fact that this is an Id game gives it the kind of weight of expectation that will inevitably cause it to review a little lower than if it were from anyone else. I trust that, while it may not innovate or move the genre forward in a meaningful way, the shooting mechanics will be superb. Id know how to make a game fun and that is something other developers tend to lose focus on in the desperate bid to bring something new to the table.

I'm put off by the RPG elements too but I do think from what I have read its not about leveling up but more about quests and prizes/rewards earned from quests. If thats true its more in common with GTA/Red Dead than Fall out or oblivion.
I would hold off until it goes down but really desperate for a good game to play after Resistance 3 and really didnt like dead island and couldnt get into deus ex
It sounds so much like Fallout 3 / Vegas that I'm really not interested at the moment. I want somthing different. Might check it out in a couple of years. I think pretty much everyone would have rather had Doom 4 instead of this.
