My thoughts? Well i would give it a solid 8/10.
Dead Island is unfortunately nothing like the infamous trailer that was released. It isn't this touching story of survival, what the trailer did capture was the zombie apocalypse that existed on the island. After that, the game differed entirely. The first trailer was emotional and powerful, and the game does not really incorperate that level of emtion. Whenever the game does have any kind of emotional moment, I can't help but laugh a little inside. Although there is a script dictating the scene, its the fact that the character models show no emotion! Their eyes just stare at you like they are peering into your soul, or they don't look at you at all when they are speaking. However its not really the main concentration of the game, but it could of been delivered better.
The gameplay, to me, is solid! It can be abit clunky at times but I like the idea of stamina when sprinting and fighting against zombies, but I find the fact that Kicking someone doesn't use stamina? I fairly sure that after awhile you will start to feel tired. Fighting zombies in this game is the first time I feel represents battling the undead. In Dead Rising using a stick could kill them in one hit, in Dead Island it takes several strikes with that stick before they die which is better since well, just because they are zombie doesn't mean they have the same resistence to damage like a live being.
Does the game have some bugs, well yes but alot of games do have bugs in the game, hell Fallout New Vegas had those in abundance if you found them. Mostly its glitches random occurances like in the game i have been playing when I killed one zombie, it flew around or sometimes it looks like its break dancing or when I got stuck inside of an undriveable car when trying to climb a ladder. Also the interior graphics could of been better, by along way! Textures do text about a minute to load in some instances. However I won't forgive the dismal sink i found in Act 2 of the game. The textures are 'buzzing,' the water is terrible, and they have placed a 16-bit plate in the sink, which is truely awful!
All in all I wouldn't say the game is bad, hell I enjoy it to no end! It has its flaws but what game doesn't? If you enjoy smashing zombies and playing RPG's? Then Dead Island is for you.
I would also like to note I have mostly been playing Dead Island in 4 player Co-op, not much done in Single Player, so this could not represent your views on the game if you have been playing the game by yourself.
I came here to have me ass kicked and my bubble gum stolen. So I am definitely out of gum.
