Bleszinski: PSN hack paranoia may hold back industry

This guy is my second most hated in the industry bar Bobby.

Idiot, and gives indie devs a hard time also, what a gimp.

if I have a mini-game on mobile and, say, polish my lancer while I'm at the pub, then I come back and it's stronger

Got to say, whatever you think of Cliff - and he hasn't always seen eye-to-eye with CVG! - he is a huge supporter of the indie scene and its developers. His speech at GDC was packed with hundreds of them.

Quite retarded he mentioned WP7 and iPhone. Android has largest market share.
I got a warning for saying what most people have probably thought.

I predicted the Wii U controllers use.

Are you high? He's a huge advocate of indie development...

And the only reason people hate him is because they disagree with him. He's no more opinionated than 95% of the CVG population, he just has a bigger audience. Agree with him or not, at least he's open about his opinions and not restrained by corporate bullshit - and manages to do that without being crude or offensive.

Android has the biggest market share for a mobile OS, but not in a way that's helpful to anyone requiring a decent amount of power consistently across all hardware. Where UE3 will run on one Android phone, it won't on the other. That's not very helpful to someone like Epic. iOS is fixed to Apple devices with standard hardware and Microsoft demand certain specifications by the hardware vendors for WP7, making them consistent and predictable to develop for.

Developing for Android would require so many caveats.

Having actually heard the man speak intelligently and enthusiastically earlier this week about a) when he bought a PS3 - 2ndhand... b) how he gets frustrated by journalists "simplifying" things to fit sound-bites and pull quotes and how he is passionate about playing games on PS3 and Wii, even though he is primarily a 360/PC dev I'm not going t5o take CVGs bait so easily here!

I dont agree with this at all. Sony seem to be opening up more not less. Cross-platform seems to be very much in their future. And now Nintendo seem to be going that way also. Perhaps Gears needs moving to a new platform.

I would need to disagree pretty strongly with your comment there.

I really dont think Cliff gives Indie Devs a hard time, in fact I would say its quite the opposite.

i feel that any mobile phone connectivity simply opens up more marketing opprortunitys, its simply about revenue.
ultimatly any mobile connectivity will marginalise the hardcore games experience,
i hate the word hardcore as its meaning in terms of gamers has changed drasticly over the last 20 yrs.
i would have said i was hardocre but no longer as i dont think it means the same thing anymore

bioware spout the same, i mean mass effect and dragonage play out like mad psycometric tests which would be of great interest to maketing, and then theres the option that lets them monitor your responses in game
a bit creepy if you ask me

I used to think CliffyB was a real douche, but he's certainly matured a lot (hence him dropping the CliffyB tag), and the podcast interview that IGN did with him a few months back really showed me that he's a smart guy, and is passionate about the industry. That changed my opinion of him a lot.

Will consumers be so quick to trust Sony though?
