Iwata hints Wii U will cost more than $250

Postby gobbybobby » 08 Jun 2011, 10:29

Well it is a new console.
And its the same as the WII launch price despite high Inflation over the last 5 years. So in reality its CHEAPER than the WII launch price.

Nintendo fans finally have a price and release date for the company's new generation console, Wii. The Big N has officially announced that the system will hit retail in North and South America for $249.99 on November 19. The New York Times initially published the story and seems, in fact, to have beaten Nintendo Co. Ltd with the news

Iwata hints Wii U will cost more than $250

Postby WHERESMYMONKEY » 08 Jun 2011, 10:32

REggie didn't say it would be competitively priced at all. He cagily said it would offer value. Basically he said it'd be worth the price. I doubt it'll drop for less than £300 to be honest. Still here's hoping.

That's shaping up for a £299.99 RRP over here then.

We'll see. I reckon not much over £200 as it will then probably be the most expensive console out there and especially if it's only comparable with the PS3/360 in terms of power.

He didn't mention a figure, he just said he didn't think it would launch at the current price of the Wii (if google is correct with it's translation). If they're comparing it to the retail price of the Wii in Japan, should we compare it to that or to the retail price of the wii in the US and Europe?

$250's about £250. Same price as the N64, and then inflation... Not bad as long as it's a beast of a machine.

Surely that controller will cost a packet. The console itself doesn't look too expensive, but that controller.
Perhaps Nintendo should have kept this for later down the line, once some games are actually running on it.

I get the feeling that controller is going to make this an expensive system. Reggie did say it would be good "value for money" compared to competition, which could mean anything. I can see it launching at the higher end of £250-£300, which I just cant afford at the moment. The thing that got me to buy the Wii on day one was the relatively low price (and Zelda), but even at £250 I think this time I'll wait for a price drop. I suppose it will come down to what launch titles are available too, but it looks to me like Nintendo might have gone too far with that controller in this economic climate. Looks good though...

yep, that controller... seems like another nintendo gimmick to me, like an upgraded VMU.

a casual £100 for bashing your controller off the wall in a rage... have the feeling that there will be a non-screen version available for cheap. especially when it turns out that it is non essential for the actual gaming.

why would you buy an HD wii, then want to play it on a sh*tty wee screen?!

It doesn't play Blu-ray movies, so how can it have the same value (what Nintendo is claiming) as the PS3? Whatever price point they attach to it.

I reckon it'll be £280. Ninty tend to overcharge for their products. I'm not trying to be negative... I mean I'll be getting this for sure... but still.

Do your family eat with Swiss army knives as the nail file and corkscrew make them better value than regular knives?
