Gaming gadget of the year: 360 S or PS3 Slim?

Postby MrRoyEvans » 29 Jul 2010, 11:39

The Xbox 360 slim is simply outstanding. If only this was the original model released back in 2005.

^^^

I agree. The New xbox is amazing, so quiet and looks amazing. Great Wifi. I would scrap the disc tray though, but apart from that it is a near perfect machine.

These awards are always won on the basis of who you're asking.

360S will obviously win if it's an English speaking mag.

Two great hardware revisions though all moaning aside.

PS3 Slim I reckon. Not the nicest looking machine, but very impressive that they've been able to cram in all that gear, including the power supply into that little box.

And disc in OR out, it's bloody quiet.

Have to say ps3 slim. It's so quiet and i have had no problems with it so far. The wi-fi seems more consistant than the 360 s and there is no power brick.

Probably the mx11. It is not really portable but it's small-ish and can play most games maxed out which is pretty awesome for a laptop.

Don't think the PS3 slim or XBox squat has done much other than slimmed down and/or shortened. I don't have a Slim but if it has a nice slot loader and Sony really pushed the PSU inside then that is quite amazing but at the end of the day it still looks a bit weird IMO. The Squat is better than the original but how can it be called outstanding? It does what it was meant to do at launch, nothing more and nothing less. It is no doubt an improvement but all it does is replace smthg that was broken and also looks retarded.

Wasn't the slim launched last year? If so then why is there no word of the ATI 5970? That card destroys anything you throw at it and then laughs at you.

As it's the gaming gadget of this year '2010' (PS3 Slim was 2009), I think it has to be the Xbox 360 S.

It's a great revision, it solves the problems of the previous version: Noise & Reliability, while adding built in Wi-Fi, a larger 250GB hard-drive. a better looking & smaller design and full compatibility with future hardware, all at the same price.

The only contender would be if Nintendo were to release their 3DS before Christmas. 8)

The 360 S does nothing that the PS3 Slim doesn't do, so by default, the PS3 Slim wins for me. Only because it was first to market.

its certainly not the Ipad BTW.

I saw someone playing a racing game on it in Heathrow, graphics were not bad, but the game was ruined for me when they tried to corner and they had to tip the screnn upside down to go round it! DOH!

How can it possibly the be the Xbox over the PS3? As Mark said, it does absolutely nothing the PS3 doesn't do plus the PS3 is quieter, blu-ray capable, 3D capable and has no disc-tray plus easily upgradable HDD. The new xbox is an improvement on the old console yes, but with more functionality than the PS3slim? I don't think so.

I couldn't get excited about a redesign in hardware terms. Certainly a redesign that doesn't add any functionality.

Just because something does a lot, doesn't make it the best. In which case, a PC would come top every time. It's about gaming devices.

That said, the PS3's arguably had a better year in that resepct anyway, regardless of any redesigns. The 360's redesign is more of an improvement over the original though than the PS3. Mainly because there were so many issues with the original design (and some still haven't been fixed, i.e. disc scratching).
