Apple: 'Hold your iPhone 4 differently'

Postby iammillsey » 25 Jun 2010, 10:55

From that statement, I'm reading "Yes, we know it's a problem but thought we'd get away with it so didn't look for a fix before going live with the phone. You see, it would have cost us too much money to have tried to fix it, so we didn't bother. But hey, why don't you spend more money and buy a case that covers the new look of the phone."

Just send the style over substance piece of s**t back to Jobs and his cronies claiming "not fit for purpose" and then see if the arrogant tosser changes his tune!

I've read about a similar issue with Google's Nexus One. Apparently the FCC require that a lot of phones have the radiating components as far away from the head as possible (i.e. the bottom).

Still. Not a very classy response, Apple.

Software, Not Hardware

Postby littlesmegger » 25 Jun 2010, 11:34

This is clearly a software issue, as there has been videos online showing the 3GS suddenly get this problem. It's ever since the 4.0 update was released.

There'll be a 4.0.1 update in the next few days, you watch. Just like when the iPad had connection issues on launch, it was all software.

I find that if I hold my ipod touch in a certain way, it kills the wireless signal. I assume, than that I need to keep away from the black strip of plastic on the back!

I had the chance of getting it yesterday, but after reading about the yellow blotches/signal problems. I decided to save myself the bother and wait until all the frenzy dies down and the problems are sorted (if at all).

Here's a forum thread where Nexus One users are reporting a similar issue:

http://bit.ly/bNi5c8

My main problem is with Apple's dismissive response. Although at least they have responded at all, unlike Google.

The yellow blotches are apparently where the bonding agent hasn't fully dried. Probably because they're rushing them out the door a little too quickly. I've read that after a day or so of use they disappear.

Kinda funny though - Steve Jobs demoed iPhone 4 in his left hand, and many of the people in the advert are holding it in their left hand. Oops

seeing as you have tried to address the same thing TWICE (android phones being as 'intermittent' as iPhone)i give you this conclusion:
Damn fanboy, p**s off and go to Engadget
