PSM3 remembers the endearing Mudokons

"Whoops". This is the moment you empathise with Abe - a former slave for the RuptureFarms meat processing plant, tasked with rescuing his species from a fate worse than death (death, then being turned into pies). It's a game with a strong message, but it's also kind of funny when the Mudokons you're trying to save end up squished by a boulder or dissected by a big revolving blade. Abe's post-failure utterance expresses a sliver of regret, but not so much that you can't enjoy the dark humour in their stupidly gory deaths. Thanks Abe. Watch out for that landmine. Why Abe's Oddysee was way ahead of its time

Loved the oddworld series. Some of the best games ever made in my opinion. Funny, intelligent and challenging. Always remember abes opening monologue.

Why Abe's Oddysee was way ahead of its time

Postby rubblemaker » 25 Mar 2010, 13:30

God I loved the Oddworld games, all of them. Bringing the later ones into 3d was awesome but the 2d ones were just as good, they lost nothing through being 2d and had as much atmosphere as your bioshocks and your stalkers. The satisfaction you got when you figured out the solution to a particular section was unparalleled. And the trials you went through in the first game to gain demigod status were just amazing. Amazing games all round. Oddworld series, you are sorely missed!

In my opinion Oddworld Stranger was the best game in terms of gameplay, graphics and story last generation.

If they never make another game it'll be a shame.

More oddworld please, I loved it, brilliant games. Either a new game or if they could put it on xbox live or PSN in some form. I miss abe, a failure to have Abe this generation would be a big "Whoops" for all.

I remember this game, used to give me the creeps! But yeah, this deserves a much higher praise than what it received...

If the old oddworld games were added to psn or xbl, I would be buying in an instant!

Love Abe. Get this on PSN now! Games like this are what PSN should be used for, they would make so much money. Reissuing this in HD would be even better, but that would cost them time and money, so doubt that would happen.

They need to do something with this series.

It would be perfect for XBLA. Some great achievements could be put in place (like saving every Mudokon or killing every Mudokon)

A DS port would be good too. The mic could be used for Gamespeak and the touch screen could disarm the bombs and control the farts.

Well you guys are in luck, if you have a PS3. They have 2 games available on the PSN. Go to the PS Store, go to games and select PSone classics. You can buy both Abe's Oddyssee and Abe's Exodus.

I highly doubt these games will ever make it to Xbox Live, since they are PSone games.

I really hope they make another one of Abe's adventures, they were sooo much fun.

THe first two are available on the US PSN store - the UK always get shafted. Yes I know I could create an additional account but I should not have to!

Played them both on PC, thought they were great and replayed them many times. This was one of the first platform games I ever played too.

When I get money I think Steam needs to take some from me to get these back. I do miss the days when games were worth the money you pay for them.

I loved the Oddworld games- Oddworld Inhabitants were bursting with awesome ideas, stunning designs and smooth as silk gameplay.

Munch's Oddysee wasn't up to the previous games on the PS1- but Strangers Wrath was utterly fantastic- and had one of the best story twists ever.

Might go see if I can grab it for my PC- I've been playing Flashback again and some Slig squashing is well in order.

Fond memories of this brilliant game and its sequel, Abe's Exoddus. It was criminally overlooked at the time. Defo deserves a re-release on PSN, XBLA, steam etc.
