The online RPG our spellchecker loves to hate...

How the mighty have fallen. That's what people would have you believe anyway - and we can't say we blame them. Phantasy Star Online, the Dreamcast's pioneering series that brought online RPG action to consoles, undoubtedly peaked with Episode I & II on GameCube, suffered a gross mis-step with Episode III: C.A.R.D Revolution before going off on a tangent with Universe, haemorrhaging active players and dividing the opinions of the Phantasy Star faithful in the process.... read more

The Gamecube PSO was, undoubtedly, disappointing. If anything the Xbox version was at least more interesting as you could chat while playing, which was a first for PSO.

The series clearly peaked with PSO v.2 on Dreamcast, and Universe was both a blessing and a curse. The Phantasy Star Portable game was very good.

I put over 400 hours into Universe. It was good but not a patch on PSO Ver.2 which
I still sometimes play on Schtserv. Got Zero yesterday, it's pretty good. Can't seem to connect with my mates though, I get an error code every time.

PSU was fun for a while... but ultimately the economy was buggered (at least on the 360). And the gameplay got real boring... there just wasn't enough variety to it. I used to love playing PSO on the DC though!
