New Driver game confirmed

Postby cheesyfishface » 14 Jan 2010, 10:55

:D Driver begins it's comeback! I hope this game will be good, even though it will undoubtably be compared to GTA as always. But another driver game is good news hopefully it will be on 360 + PS3 and not like the last and just on PSP. :?:

hopefully it won't be rubbish like all the others too.

i know its not fair not to compare it to gta, but it always has and always will be...and its never stood up, always been a filler

ps3 can keep it

They better keep the director mode from Driv3r!!
It was awesome stuff and so impressive for the original xbox
The only replay mode I actually used and you could make your own chase sequences.

Driver 2 was brilliant, and Parallel Lines was pretty good. It's not really fair to compare it to GTA I don't think. Driver was always a better driving game. That sounded a bit stupid.

A new Driver and a new True Crime this gen. Both series have shown a lot of potential in the past but ultimately failed to deliver. Having said that, the first Driver on PS1 along with Metal Gear Solid were my most played games of that era.

I hope that the power of current gen consoles helps both titles achieve a better finished product. Both games have been held back by hardware limitations. Driver 2 had terrible pop-up due to it's ambition, and True Crime New York suffered awful framerate issues.

Though, with Mafia II and Red Dead Redemption on the horizon, they'll have their work cut out to get noticed!

I really enjoyed the first Driver game. I'm still looking for a copy of the soundtrack if anyone knows where I can get it, since my little brother broke the CD it came on.

I think their mistake was TRYING to compete with GTA. It was much more interesting when it was the driving that was the focus rather than being able to run about the place and go into building and stuff. That cool 70s cop show feel was great, with hubcaps that came off if you cornered fast and cliche back alleys littered with boxes. It was fun and full of the silliness that made shows of the same era good to watch.

If they can get back to that then I might be interested. I reckon taking itself too seriously was what killed it.

Yeah I agree! thou I do remember on Driver 3 if I'm mistaken one of the missions was in a warehouse and when you went in you found a tommy vicetti look alike in there trying to cut you down! funny addition I must admit!

Correct me if I'm wrong but Driver 2 was the first game based in a 'fully' 3D city where you could both drive and run around on foot and 'jack' cars too.

Then GTA 3 came on PS2 and destroyed it because it had better hardware and a more polished game overall.

Then Driv3r came and yes, it had flaws but the REAL problem was that the game was TOO ambitious for the hardware. I though it was brilliant and although it had annoying glitches and bad performance the game itself was great.

Paralell Lines was even alright but I'd prefer to have gone back to Tanner.

This news does excite me though. One of the games that got me into driving games tbh so I hope it's worthy of its name.

Yep you are right. Everyone has said that Driver copies GTA but Driver was the first game with an open 3D city. Driver 2 was the first game to have the ability to get in and out of vehicles. Driver 3 had some exceptional visuals at the time and Parallel Lines wasn't as large as it should have been due to it being released without much marketing. It also had some of the first signs of customisation for cars etc. All in all they should be taken for what they are but Driver really does get too much criticism. I'm hoping they bring something new to this game that GTA hasn't but I expect what ever is new will be forgotten and deemed a copy once again.
