Aliens vs Predator DLC 'already in creation'

Postby Moribundman » 13 Jan 2010, 16:19

Get this in early: Waah! Waah! Money grabbing... Boo! DLC while still in development... Murmur. Chopped out of game and sold back to me... etc etc

People should get it into their heads that usually when devs do this its because certain stuff they wanted to include in the game wasn't ready by the deadline and they ended up releasing it as DLC so they could ship on time AND eventually offer the player the additional content.

This looks cool. Saw the game running at the EG Expo in London a couple of months back. DLC should give it extra lifespan.

Well if they've just about got the game polished, why not start thinking about DLC. They're not gonna get it into the game before release... I hope this is awesome!

Are you able to back up this statement with some examples of content that was due to be included being removed so a game could ship on time? I didnt think it was usual at all

Just think of every game where people have complained that content was 'cut' so it could be sold as DLC instead (Tomb Raider Underworld and Assassin's Creed II come to mind). While everyone likes to get in a rage about it, it's also possible that the content that was cut had to be done so that schedules could be met.
We'll probably never know for sure though

Just sounds like a dev that are really excited about the release of a game they have spent lots of time and effort in doing, and are looking forward to getting back to it to produce a sequel or DLC!

They might have a story sorted out and work on the story and base the game around that! and maybe along the way have new ideas and instead of adding it into the game to push back the release date, they make DLC to bring out once the game is out! sounds normal to me!

Moribundman, in your haste to preempt the complaints with your own little moan, you forgot to list my favourite one... I'd rather put the money towards a new game than waste it on an old game!

By the way, the argument about shipping on time doesn't make sense any more since we've seen plenty of games held back, purposely delayed to avoid coming out the same time as Modern Warfare 2. Not to mention a lot of game developers delay games all the time. Always have that I remember. But anyway, I get the message, you love this game.

I must say dlc plans at this stage seem a bit premature - the game isn't even out yet, although it is probably finished or just being finalised... However, I must also admit that this has got to be my most wanted game for 2010 so far and any dlc for it will be welcome in my book. In fact, I can't rememeber a time since Sonic 3 I've been so excited by a game. Can't wait to play it!

Perhaps. Just seems a bit too convenient, and they still end up charging anyway for what was cut to meet the deadline.

Why not release it for free is that's the case?

Then I woke up.
